AUX input for '06+

The AUX input has been my only frustration with my 4runner so far.
I don't know why Toyota put it INSIDE of the center console, considering with any AUX input that you have to control the music on the MP3 player itself.
The only reason I don't care to add the IPOD adapter to my head unit is because my wife drives the 4runner more than I do and she has a shuffle that she carries around with her.... thus she would need an AUX adapter (or a USB connection).
I am thinking about doing my own mod and purchasing a 6' cable, connecting one end to the AUX input in the center console and running the other end under the center console and up to the small cubby next to the shift lever. That way if I have my IPOD in there, I can plug my charger into the outlet that is in there. Not to mention, when not in use, the lid can be closed, hiding the end of the cable that would be in there. Thoughts anyone?

I would say add the IPOD cable and run it into the cubby next to the shifter. That way it starts up and shuts down the IPOD with the radio and you can change songs with the steering wheel controls. That's what I did.

I actually like it inside the console, because it keeps the iPod out of sight on longer drives or if I need to make a quick stop. There is a gap between the armrest/lid and the console bin on the forward edge for cords to come out without getting pinched.

is there an adapter that i have to buy to be able to plug the ipod to the Stock JBL HU?

The 2006-09 4Runners have a 3.5mm auxiliary input jack inside the center console. You can connect any audio source into it.
If you're looking for iPod integration (being able to control the iPod) from the steering wheel controls or HU, you will need an adapter such one from DICE, USA spec, etc. IIRC, Toyota has an accessory kit that is suppose to integrate the iPod.

It's against the front wall of the center console underneath the coin holder.
I also bought an '06 stereo on eBay. Model number P1802.
I'm going to replace the stock '03 unit in my '03 4Runner.
Does anyone know where to buy the 3.5 jack that wires from the center console to the back of the stereo? I've seen this part offered for camry and corolla, but not 4runner. I'm tempted to go ask the dealer, but I'll bet they want top dollar for the OEM part?
Hello! new to the 4runner world. I found this post about the 3.5m Aux jack. i have a 2007 with the aux jack in the center console. i think it needs to be replaced; ONLY way it works is if i press (and hold) UP on the plug when it's inserted into the jack.
So, i believe i need to either fix a loose connection (not good at soldering) OR replace the jack itself. It's my wife's rig, she likes the stock stereo/cd changer alot, so i'm not looking to spend much on replacing the headunit with an aftermarket.
Any idea as to how difficult this is to replace? (costs?)
