Aux light confusion in CO

Can anybody help me to understand how many lights I can legally put on my truck in Colorado? I'm looking at a set of Piaa 580s and 520s on a Defiant light bar for driving and fog. I've read the CO statutes and does it mean I can only mount 2 lights or can I have 4 lights but only use 2 of them at a time?

Nice choice, I have that same combo (Defiant, 580, & 520) : The 580s are FREAKING SWEET.

I was pulled over for running all 4 PIAAs as well as my headlights & stock fog lights by a CO state trooper last January. He told me it was illegal to have more than 4 headlights on at the same time. It's not illegal to have more or run them off road, but you can't have more than 4 forward facing lights on at a time if you're on the road.

FYI, I didn't realize I had the 4 aux lights on until he pulled me over; I don't just drive everywhere with them on like some people I see.

X2 what Gaterose said. You can have no more than 4 forward facing lights ON while driving on roads.....if you are off-road or on trails, it does not matter. A friend had that same issue in Florida and the cop just gave him a warning (he said he didn't know he had all 8 of the lights on, ha).

Your truck is where I got the idea. I love PIAA and the defiant bar rocks. Plagerisim is the greatest form of flattery. I see you have the 580's as fog and not driving and the 520's as driving and not fog? Can you help me to understand why? Espescially with the 520's mounted on the outside.

Short answer - Money.

Long answer -
I got a good deal, I got these 6-8 years ago new on eBay for $120, at that time these were going for $280+ at the cheapest (now they're $240 new usually on eBay). I couldn't pass it up & thought I'd just swap lenses. I never did because the fog lens throws a huge wall of light (instead of a spot like driving) when aimed at the same level as driving lights and PIAA lenses aren't cheap.

My 580s are still MUCH brighter than my 520s and IMO the light they put out is more useful because of the larger area illuminated. Every time I've changed the lights or bulbs (several times), I've compared the usable light to the 580s and none of the others compare IMO.

They're on the inside because I think it'd look like crap if they were on the outside since they're larger... One day I may buy 2 more driving 580s and and put the fogs on the outside but I like the staggered size look and this setup is incredibly bright as is.

The officer that pulled me over said he was seeing a red spot while writing my warning and that he couldn't believe how bright they were (he wasn't mad though, it sounded like a compliment the way he said it).
