Hi all.

Im new to this forum but have had my 4-Runner for a year and a half. It was my wifes daily driver then i got to take it over about 2 months ago and fell in love with it. My question is my boss's tacoma has the 115w switch and i know it goes to his aux power in the bed of the truck. After looking at everyones amazing rides I noticed some of you guys have the same switch for power. Where are the plug ins and how hard would be it be to add that to my system. I am very very big on clean factory style look. I don't want it to look custom. Any help is greatly apprciated. Lots of awesome ride and can't wait to do more.

My 2005 doesn't have that option installed but I'm pretty sure all the wiring is there: the switch mounts on the dash left of the steering wheel (harness is there), and the outlet itself mounts in the console (pretty sure harness in under the console). You would also have to plug in a relay in the fuse panel under the hood. Not sure how much all the components would cost you.

This is correct I have a 2009 Limited and the power plug is inside the center console next to my aux plug
 
The actual inverter is mounted inside the driver side cargo area wall. And it is expensive and only 100W. It is great for a factory looking unit, but for much much cheaper than a retrofit you could buy an aftermarket 400+ Watt inverter and hardwire it to the battery. Pics of the switch and outlet can be seen on my constant power 115V mod page.
 
So just so I'm not missunder standing all the wiring is there just not connected?? I know I have seen a relay spot but never really had time to mess with it. If it's not there then where would be a good location to mount the inverter so it is out of the way but still easy to get to. I haven't really started taking thind apart to see how much room is behind certain things so any helpt it great. hope to have a pic up of the runner this afternoon.
 
I too am into the factory look and don't like drawing attention to my ride.

But the factory option for this is outrageously priced. I didn't get it installed in my new Runner after seeing what it cost. And yeah, your Runner might pre-wired for it, but you still need to buy the inverter parts which can set you back much more than an aftermarket version.

And as others have stated, it's only a 100W, vs. and aftermarket which can offer much more, and for cheaper price.

I have the OE inverter. If I didn't I might buy the Toyota switch but I wouldn't buy the inverter. I love having an inverter but huge money for 100w makes no sense. Go aftermarket!


I'd spend money/effort putting extra 12v outlets in the vehicle and get a portable aftermarket inverter before I bought the OE inverter...


No doubt an inverter of some sort is required equipment:D

I ditched my stock 100W inverter setup and put in my own 800W system. I put the aftermarket inverter in the engine compartment, and ran some 6 AWG wire to it. I took the inverter apart and disconnected the on/off switch. I then extended the wires for the switch and ran the wires to the OEM 115V switch, which I relocated to the center console so that passengers could turn it on and off. I connected an extension cord to inverter and ran it through the firewall and it comes out below the glove box.

so basically I spent $80 for the 800W inverter (ebay), about $10 on wire and connectors, and used my stock switch. It would cost you around $40 for the OEM switch, or you can buy the scion type rocker switch which fits the 4runner slots for ~$10.

If I get the time I may rip out the stock inverter and sell it.
 
Anyone have the Toyota part number for the factory 115v switch? I've searched and searched, and can't find it anywhere.
