Back-up light installation help
I bought the Cabela's back-up light kit (made by Blazer) recently for my '03 4Runner V8 SR5 4WD. I'm trying to determine the cleanest way to run the wiring and could use some help. I'm going to mount the lights on either side of the tow hitch under the rear bumper. For those unfamiliar with the kit, the wiring runs through its own 12V 30 amp relay and an on/off switch.
I need some input as to what the best power source would be for my situation. The main power will draw from the battery, but I need to tap into an existing light's wiring. Since they're switch operated, I'd like to be able to turn them on with the parking lights on, whether the vehicle is in reverse or in park. This leads me to think that the power source that I need to splice into is for the tail lights. Can anyone instruct me where the easiest place to access the tail light wiring is, and how to identify the proper wire. If there is a better power source to splice into for my desired application I'd love to hear it.
Once I've isolated the correct wire, it looks like I splice the light kit wiring into the existing wiring using the splice connector that came with the kit (see link below). Is this correct? Anything I need to be wary of when splicing into the vehicle's existing wiring?
