Avg miles per gallon computer not reading after towing?

I just got done towing a U-Haul trailer for 2 days moving into a new house for a family member. I am driving the SE V8 and I was getting around 16.8 MPG but after towing the computer now reads 15.4 MPG. I have been driving it around for a little while and the computer hasn't changed. It is almost stuck on it. This happened on my last Runner also which was a 2003. Has anyone else noticed this? If I disconnect the neg on the battery and then put it back it works just fine. Just towing screws it up. Has this happened to anyone else?

Why not just hit the reset button?

I tried that but it just reads 0.0 and reads nothing. It doesn't start up again until I actually disconnet the battery.

Have you tried switching to another mode (miles left at present)?
See if the computer is locked up, or just the average miles per gal reading taking time to re-adjust itself.
