Avic-z1 Hdd

So I got the AVIC-Z1 installed in my 2006 4Runner.

All is well really like everything so far.

A couple of issues I wish was different.
I would really like to burn my MP3's on a disk and copy them to the hard drive.

The changing of the nav setting while driving or at a stop light would be good but seem to get around most of that using the voice. Just gotta learn the commands.

And only having 10 gig for music seemed like a limitation to me.

So I pulled the HD out. Very simple about 30 secs worth of work. It has a Toshiba 30 gig HD supposedly hardened for shoch and temp.

But I tried to do a clone so I could have a spare and was hoping to go to a bigger drive on that partition.

Should have worked since I thought the system was using Microsoft Windows Automotive.

But none of my utilities recognizes the drive. Can't even get my cloning software to recognize it.

So until some one figures out how to do this I am stumped but will keep trying.

I figure if nothing else a backup drive should be on hand. I do this with all my laptops as well.

hey grather this is kinda off topic but i read that you had the jbl 6 disc unit. do u have any pictures of your install? Did you have to custom it? I really want this unit but i was told that there is no kit for our cars with the jbl system

Photos Of Install AVIC

I had a shop here install the unit in my 2006 4Runner.

I think it looks great.

I am happy with it so far. Very accurate and the database is pretty impressive with POI's

No everything is part of the unit or stock from the showroom.
They had to have either made those pieces or they were pre-made. Is there anything on your invoice? maybe you could call and ask them? This is a dilemma a lot of people face with the double dins. my D1 sticks out and I want it flush.

Much appreciated in advance.
