Axle shaft mess

Alright, this is my first post. My truck is a 97 3.4 5speed with e locker at right around 350000km
A few weeks ago I noticed the passenger axle was leaking a lot of gear oil in the bottom of the wheel. Went to my local Toyota and they wanted almost 1500$ to do it so I thought I’d save some money and do everything I could myself. I pulled the axle shafts and bought all oem seals dust guards etc. I have a shop that I’ve been going to for many years and I trust them, however this time they may have messed up a little

There is an area on the top of the axle shaft that is dented, and when I was trying to put it in it wouldn’t go, I tried all the turning and wiggling and stuff. The other side went in easy, I pulled it out and started to inspect it and found those. Is it worth trying to file it a bit and clean it up, or go back to the shop and get them to do it?

As much as I wouldn't think the dented end would cause any issue, the fact that you can't get it in implies otherwise.
I think you should let the shop know something got damaged during the job.
If they pounded on the axle to get the bearings or seals off, I could see how it could deform the splined end.
Sucks to have to deal with that. I would certainly be frustrated.
