Back end feels like it's floating sideways

The past few days I have experienced a very unnerving sensation driving my 2010 4R TE. The back end suddenly feels like it's slightly floating sideways, but the stability control or ABS are not kicking in nor am I losing any traction.

Temps -10c to -18c
Tires: 265-70-17 Silent Armors almost new
Stock 4R TE with KDSS
Mileage: 7,000kms (5000 miles)

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

I'll check tire pressure first of course.........

Are those tires P or LT, what is the load rating, and what is the psi you are using? Right off the bat, if they are LT tires, then the pressure posted on the door jam is likely incorrect.

Probably something to due with the tires. However, it wouldn't hurt to look underneath and make sure the panhard bar (track bar) is snugly secured at both ends.

I got about the same mileage on my SR5, but I don't have anything you've described. Have stock tires though. Maybe it was just slippery road, did you try to turn on 4x4? Did you check the tire pressure?

i get this feeling sometimes, but it is usually if i am following a big rig or sometimes when it is really windy out. but, ya, i think increasing psi might help.

They are P rated and inflated to 33psi. This just started happening a few days ago and I've been driving on snow/ice for more than 6 weeks with these tires.

We've had lots of that here lately, but I don't think that's it. My back went out today so I haven't had time to do some more testing.

I've had that feeling on numerous vehicles over the years, and it was almost always due to slippery road conditions. Some tires have a tendency to follow grooves in the pavement though too, which can cause a similar feel.
