i just bought my 1st 4runner ( '03 Limited V8) and could not be happier! However, i do notice when i drive down bumpy roads there is a creeking in the back. i had a friend drive while i searched for it and could only conclude that it was coming from my back hatch. does anyone know if this is/was a problem with this year of the 4runner?

I cant answer your question , but try opening the hatch and cleaning all the rubber seals with just an all purpose cleaner , then wipe them down with an armor type of product. Make sure you clean the seals but also clean the hatch where the seals touch the hatch or other seals .

I do this when my sunroof squeaks and it lasts a good 6 months , by cleaning them and putting a some protectant on them.

Just a thought , see if it helps. works good on all rubber seals in door jams too.

I also have a creaking noise from the rear drivers side area. Drives me nuts! Anyway, someone on this board suggested wrapping electrical tape around the metal latch where the rear fold-down seats lock in their upright place. I'm in the medical field so I used silk tape (was just readily available) and it seems to have solved the problem for now. Now if I could just get rid of the damn steering wheel vibration problem.

Lou, your truck still does not look any higher than it was before .....lol:D

Jay, let me know if that works , if not we'll have to look elsewhere to find the issue. Have your buddy drive around and listen for the rear seat squeak too. I believe there is a Toyota TSB for that.
