I got back home early Monday morning from my yearly trek out to the Walnut Valley Music Festival in Winfield, Kansas. This year was a little different for me as I pulled my 4000 pound popup trailer (Fleetwood Avalon) for the first time to Kansas. I usually "camp out" in a local hotel at this festival, but this year I wanted to use the new trailer and I wasn't disappointed that I brought it to the festival.

The 4Runner pulled the trailer really well. Gas mileage was as expected - about 12-14 mpg with the trailer driving 65-70 in 4th gear. The only time I could really tell the trailer was behind me (other than the higher than usual RPM's) was in traffic and when I went over expansion joints in the road.

I plan to buy a Hensley Arrow sway control system before I pull the trailer long distances next year. I wish I had it for the trip to Kansas. The TruControl brake controller worked perfectly.

The current challenge for those if us in the Southeast is the find reliable sources of gas. Damn. it just doesn't end...

Glad the trip went well and the T4R handled the trailer well. I just drove through GA but not close to ATL (US1 & 301). There were some gas issues but we made out ok. Carolinas and Florida are fine.


I can't help but wonder if the problem isn't related to politics more than supply. Metro Atlanta is on the fence for the election. Starve the area in terms of fuel and the drill here, drill now McCain/Palin ticket becames more and more appealling...

Thanks. I agree. We're told it has to do with the lack of supply of some special blend of gasoline that is used in the Atlanta area because of pollution standards, but I think it's all BS. GA politics are something out of the dark ages IMO.

You must have come nowhere near Charlotte. Most, if not all, the stations around here are out of gas.

From the crap the news was feeding us, the issue is the supply line to the SE. Supposedly it had been damaged by Ike and not fully repaired yet. In any case, I've got 5 gallons in my garage should this shortage carry on much longer.

Cruised right through... Didn't even pay attention. I set the goal of avoiding buying gas in big cities and it worked
