So heres a long story: Back in 2003 I entered into a relationship with a beautiful 1998 4Runner Limited 4wd (white/tan leather) and we were happy for many years. We used to go through flower strewn meadows together, long drives in the snow, enjoy sunsets on the beach, and go camping in the mountains of NC, but my heart was impure and in May 2007 I traded her in for a brand new shiny mistress, an FJ Cruiser. The love was not there and so I traded that for a 2004 diesel F-250 FX4. traded that for a 2001 X5, and finally on Sunday I bought a....<drumroll>
1996 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4wd!!!
She is green outside, tan leather inside and filthy. I don't mean filthy like a little bit of grime, I mean it is filthy like how you would feel if you cracked an eye after a hard night of drinking and were staring at Amy Winehouse and a bleeding donkey.
There is paint on interior panels, door dings, 12 years of french fries and doritos under the seats, missing ashtrays, and I'm pretty sure there is some blood on the carpet. I know this is all pretty worthless without pictures so later tonight, when I am home from work, I'll be uploading those.
First step was a full detailing by a pro which was completed about 3 hours ago. I'm working until about 11 tonight, so I haven't seen the results yet, but good things are being reported.
I met a dude to test drive it, and it was so sad that I had to just make a ridiculous offer and hope he took it. He did, so I probably have the crappiest 4runner on the forum and I love it!
Now the good news: it was maintained pretty well, timing belt changed recently, oil changes, etc. It drives like a dream, starts right up, drives absolutely perfect powerwise, handling and vibrations are nil. This weekend will see a full tuneup and all fluids being changed.
Here are problems and solutions...
1. missing interior stuff - scouring classifieds, craigslist, ebay, etc for parts.
2. front bumper dented - shrockworks w/ single hoop
3. center wheel caps are dirty - pull and paint this weekend.
4. All black trim items on outside are old looking - pulling and painting with textured black paint/clearcoat this weekend.
problems with as of yet, undecided solutions.
1. Plastic "Limited" Cladding looks like crap, really want to either paint it myself or have a shop respray it...reccomendations?
2. Had a sub and some hoopty wiring in it, will be yanking this and troubleshooting some weird electrical gremlins. Rear window no workie. I'm thinking it has to do with the sub or with the hitch wiring, I'm sure it'll be a PITA.
