The past few summer i have been in Colorado, on different excursions and trips . Sometimes, the 4x4 trails wind themselves miles deep into the wilderness. My concern is that one day i will find myself with a seriously disabled vehicle. Does anyone know of offroad towing insurance or am i going to be faced with a $1500 towing bill if something were to happen??

Why not just find someone to off road with you? I know there are more Colorado 4Runners in here. If that doesn't work, find a Jeep website and see if you can find a group. I never like to go off by myself.

I have thought of that, but it is hard to get a group who would want to stop as much as us, we usually use the 4x4 roads to get to mountain trail heads, so we usually end up camping for a few days. Luckily i see a fair number of vehicles on the trails, i'll just keep faith in my Runner not to leave me stranded, if it does, hopefully a stranger would help.

I had an incident last year in Colorado with a trailblazer (rental) where i got it high-centered on a trail...
I walked out to the main road and flagged someone down... nice guy with an FJ and somechains saved me from a tow...
in CO i would think you could flag someone down who would e willing to help... its just a matter of hiking out to a road

Rising Sun is the 4wd club in Denver metro area-also Mile High Jeep Club has a lot of members.
You can almost always find someone to accompany you or at least check on you at a stopping point. Just make arrangements before you go-let someone know when you leave and when you will return or notify them of your return. This person must be willing to phone authorities/search and rescue when you fail to keep to the terms of your trip. This will pin you down to a specific route and timing-some people just can't handle that...(like me)
-Travel with and learn to use a CB or short wave radio-you can not count on cell phones out here.
If you even suspect your ride will ever leave you stranded then take care of those trouble items/situations now. Starter contacts are the only ones that worry me personally, and I can bash a starter to make it work one more time....
Between this forum and Yota Tech and Ultimate Yota and IH8MUD there are lots of Colorado Runners and Cruisers. Post up with enough notice and you should be able to find assist with most any trip you dream.
