Backlit buttons on stack?

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and hoping I can get some guidance...I test drove a new 2013 4Runner Limited (with Navi) late yesterday and as it was getting dark I noticed that the buttons on the console stack were all dark and thus I could not see what the function of each one was without turning on the overhead (map reading) light....very annoying! Was there something wrong with the vehicle I was test driving?? Was I doing something wrong?? ...Or is this the the only vehicle on the market that doesn't have lighted buttons??!!

I could be wrong but with most vehicles there is a "dimmer" knob to the left of the steering wheel. New cars tend to start with this turn all the way down. By spinning it clockwise it should brighten up all the gauges and backlights on buttons etc. Of course this is only going to be true if it really has one of these dimmers. Did you ask the dealer? Anyway hope that helps or may give you something to look for.

I had tried turning up the dimmer to full intensity - as witnessed by the brighter lights on the round speedometer gauge but there was still no lighting on the stack buttons...the salesman didn't know whether there was supposed to be lighting on the buttons...I think I am going to put a call in to Toyota (general customer service) to try to get an answer. I am interested in buying a new 4Runner, but I just found it odd that I couldn't see any of the buttons....Perhaps this particular vehicle had a fuse out or some bad bulbs......

I may also go to another dealer and check out a 4Runner there...

I Called Toyota Corporate Today

The Tech said that all 4Runners come with backlit buttons....so the test-drive vehicle (2013) that I drove at the Dealership had a bad bulb or blown fuse (or broken wire - I guess!)....
