Backup Lights on 2008 4R

I was backing up yesterday and saw the reflection of my backup lights on a large pane window, they are kind of small and weak. when I was looking for an alternative, I found this:

Anyone tried it, or has a different solution?

ha, ha, gotta hand it to u lowpro, that is one of the best things ive done, thanks for the suggestion. oh forgot to mention, u can also replace the 18w 921 reverse bulbs with 21w, probably even slightly more without problems.

Yeah, personally it's worked out great for me also. Works even better now with the addition of the backup camera. :reddance:
 
theres 2 things that i see might be a problem with that lic. plate light JAC, 1 is it may be so bright that no one can read the lic. plate well enough,in my state it must be able to be seen at all times from all angles, & 2 is its in the center of the rear & higher up, in order to see better backing up, the lights need to be angled towards the sides so you can see them in the side view mirrors, & aimed low enough to illuminate the road surface, not blinding someone behind the vec. maybe good for a car where the plate is much lower than the 4r. just my impression of how it functions. but it may be ok, seems bright from the pics but either way, 18w s wont be as bright as 2 55 w or 2 100 w bulbs.

I think the lights just comes on when u are backing up....thats my impression. Now... I really like avoiding the hassle of drilling , mounting and wiring auxiliary lights...LOL... Not having to do all that I think is cool...LOl...at least for me. :zoom:
 
well, how to you think the wires are gonna get from the reverse lights to the lic. plate frame? you've got to tap into them, remove the interior hatch panel,under the top trim piece , then run the wires into the rear hatch,around the edge, avoiding not only the rear window but also the area it fits into when it goes down,then you'll need to drill a hole thru to where the plate is installed.& hope that the wire stays put & the window doesnt hit it when lowering. so its really more involved than just tapping into the hitch plug socket wire & mounting the lights to the hitch itself with hose clamps.--- " Easy installation, (instructions included) just tap into your reverse wires with the provided splice taps, and fasten the frame to your vehicle and you're done! Unique hidden fastener design adds security and a great look to your vehicle."

JAC, those are nice too, but bigger & mat not fit on the hitch itself, so the bumper is the other place. mine are 10 buc cheapo that ill replace with the stealth. heres how i mounted mine.

Here is my backup light. If you have a rack definitely look into LED backup lights, they are extremely bright. (The amber light is a dust light that is used while off roading at night, very nice for those behind you, it can be seen from VERY far away)

love that setup blairb, but some states dont allow backup lights installed that high on a vec. & also require them to be wired directly to the reverse lights with no dash switch installed. sometimes,i wish my state was more like cali.
