Bad day -- guidance needed -- life lesson -- broken lug nut -- nyc mechanic needed
Hi everyone,
As some of you may have seen me post here, been trying to take care of parents car because they are too busy to take care of it themselves. Some of my recent posts have been about locating squeaking brake. A lot of common issues is the fact that we dont have a reputable dealer mechanic around here to help us out and do preventative maintenance. today i attempted to locate a squeaking wheel, either was the cheap brakes they put in or the parking brake assembly got bent because the local shop that I got recommend too was stupid and didn't disengage the parking brake. probably spent 20 hours on youtube and this site reading up on how to do it.
I took out the brakes, I saw there was wasn't an anti squeal shim nor was there any brake grease... so took everything out applied some brake grease , lubed the guide pins and put it backtogether. we were putting the tire back on and as we were lightning the lug nut, the stud (Where the lug nut attaches too)snapped off.
On the brightside i may have stopped the squealing, but man im pissed it broke off.
Suggestions on what to do? after 20 hours of research, stealership might have been a better route. but I refuse to admit this. I'm analyzing, and i see all kids of problems. Rather than spending the time and money, and paying the stealership overpriced rates, might as well put it towards a new car. I know everything just needs a little touch here and there and the car should last another 5-10 years.I hate to get rid of a good car because there isn't a mechanic to fix normal ware and tare.
I assume i need a new wheal bearing assembly?
I beg anyone if they know of a reputable shop in nyc to please introduce me. yesterday i would have said i dont mind driving far for it, but i dont think i can drive that far with only 4 lug nuts on it the car.
everyone's advice here has been so valuable, I thank you you guys.

PS, demand inadvance everything get torqued down correctly if they laugh, tell them i take my business somewhere else. This probably wouldn't have happened if the previous shop didn't torque it down so hard. (as we were taking it off it took a lot of force to take it off)
