No kidding. Who's f**kin genius idea was that in the first place? nothing irritates me more, they should be illegal.

Ok, blue is bad, but even worse?

Have you guys seen the hot pink ones? Or the green?

The pink ones drive me insane :(

We should change the name of this to useless judgement thread.
It had potential to serve as a "what to watch out for" reference for noobs but turned into a bickering cry fest.

But while I'm here I'll throw my 2 cents in.
Retro fit projector headlights, especially in varying color. No. Just no.

The tint will stick fine, but it becomes downright dangerous at night- especially on windows that can't be rolled down.

I saw this stuff at Pep Boys and figured I would give it a try for the rear quarter windows. Why?

I have that thermoelectric cooler in the back (will get a fridge eventually) which isn't the greatest, most efficient thing out there. It draws quite a bit of power and only cools 40* below ambient temp. When the sun beats through the side windows it heats up the cooler making it even worse.

This tint helps a lot being 5%. I'm not a big fan of cheap tint, and it's a pain to remove once it turns purple.

This stuff is different. It's probably 3-4 times thicker than normal tint and it has NO adhesive. It just static-clings to the window so it can be peeled off and reused at any time with no residue left on the glass.

Spray the window and rough cut tint with soapy water, squeegee, trim with a sharp blade, done. Turned out surprising well. It's DARK back there now! You cannot see in the rear windows, even with your face right next to the glass, but outward visibility isn't bad.

Ummm Antman, did you just join the "bad mod club"? Ha-ha-ha........couldn't resist :hiding:

So, what have I learned from this thread?

Everything I've done to my truck is a bad idea, tint, bug deflector, vent shades, spacer lift, LR UCA's, LED Light Bar, moon roof wind deflector, 285/70/17 on stock rims.

Oh wait, the last two no one mentioned................well add them to the list boys........lol! :D

But it get me into the fast lane downtown. It's staying on.

As far as worse mods...

Wheel spacers. EVER. Sure they may kill you, but I don't want your junk slamming into my junk when it fails and killing me or mine.

Painting ANYTHING under your vehicle to match ANY flavor of skittles.

+20" Wheels..... It's not a sports car, it's an SUV you numbskull. All you are doing is making the ride suck while simultaneously letting people know you made it to puberty and it's not sitting well with you.

Maybe we should start a thread on "Spacers" How long have you had them and what type of failures have you experienced. For those engineer types, facts and data. For what its worth, have run spacers on several vehicles without issue. One was a 1972 Dodge Charger with a 340 Cu" dyno'd at just over 400HP with a 7200 Redline. So many 1/4 mile runs without a single spacer failure-just a little torque and stress on them would you say?

You don't need a thread, try Google.

Can spacers work if installed correctly to manufacture specs and check during routine maintenance? Sure; but most people do things halfazzed and seldom do followup maintenance. Combined with the fact, there are bad quality spacers out there, it just becomes a risk not worth taking. We won't even get into the negative affects to your vehicle.

bottom line, you can use spacers, and many people have and will continue to, but there are other safer ways to go about moving your tire outbound. But I get it, other ways cost more, take more time, and generally are a pain in the butt..... but that does not make spacers good, it just makes them easier.

thanks for rehashing a post from long ago BTW.

you should dig up the other 300 post about wheel spacers and post your opinion there.

FWIW, I ran 3" wheel spacers on my rock crawler for 3 years with zero problems, but most of the guys on here don't want spacers for the rock or the track, they want them to dive 80mph down the road every single day.

Tinted windshields. Not just the top few inches....but the whole thing. Seen it done, and think it's crazy. I don't like the partials or the "advertising" ones either, but at least they're not dangerous.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet - those stick on deer whistle thingys - usually on the front bumper, but I've sen them other places. They also don't seem to work well on Kansas deer!

This is a perfect place to add my thoughts. I bought my 2012 TE, used, and it had a ton of things done already. So, I figured I would save a few bucks on mods that I wanted to do plus some other mods were already done that I normally don't do. But what the heck, they were included in the purchase.

Double Window Tint and a tinted windshield - The truck was from Las Vegas and its going to Texas. I figured window tint would be a good thing. Well, the tint was definitely dark and heavy gauge but it distorted the view. It made my old eyes work even harder to focus. That had to all be removed.

ICON lift with Light Racing UCAs - I thought this was a big win. The parts were recently installed and looked brand new. But guess what? After driving and wheeling the ICONs for a few month I got a chance to drive the ARB 4Runner at Jambo and it finalized my decision. I prefer an OME setup so I did the swap over to OME. The best news, used ICONs sell for more than a brand new OME set up. Win-Win.

HID headlight kit. - Within the first two days I had problems with them. The headlights did not come on all the time. I would notice that one side worked and the other did not and then randomly switch sides. Needless to say, the kit was removed and thrashed.

URD MAF Sensor Calibrator - I just removed this last week after it being there for a year. Best mod removal ever. This removal did cause me the most anxiety though. I started off not knowing how it was connected or affacted the ECU. I wondered if I was going to cause the dash to light up like a Christmas tree or worse disable the truck. Good news, no lights and the truck ran. Along with this came a set Doug Thorley long tube headers and an AFE CAI.

I mentally struggled with the performance of the truck since I bought it. I noticed the truck made a lot of noise during WOT because it has a CAI and I think that clouded my judgement. The truck always idled rougher than my FJ did. The tailpipe always smelled rich. The stainless steel exhaust tip was always covered in a black buildup. I would jump on the throttle in the acceleration lane and black smoke would billow out. The acceleration through the lower and mid-range was flatter than the FJ too. But then again, the noise clouded my judgement.

Now, it has been a week and a few hundred miles and a full tank of gas and it already performs better and more like I would have expected. Acceleration improved, rich smell is gone, idles better and my mpg inched up a bit too. I am leaving the headers and CAI. I don't feel that they hurt or help. So they are staying.

BFG KOs - I have had BFG ATs on trucks since 1984. I am a sucker for a pretty tire. Looks clouded my judgement. Last March, I stopped at Discount Tire to get them rotated and balanced. And my Visa was burning a hole in my pocket. And I drove out with a set of Goodyear Duratracs. In my opinion, I would not buy BFGs ever again.
