right now I am getting 10 city and 12 highway. it should be getting about 17 and 20. I dont have any idea why. the engine is very smooth, the RPM dont run high. no indicator lights are on. its an AT that is shifting fine(just had the fluid flushed.) I would say i am taking it easy on the gas peddle.l i think the tires are 31 inches.
an example: i just drove it des moines from MPLS this weekend. its about 240 mile drive and I couldnt make it on one tank.

I do need to get it fixed with gas prices being what they are.

I'm getting about 9 mile per gallon any which way. Computer says EGR valve, but I can't find My way to test it or to prove that a replacement is functioning

Winter gas, wind and low temps hurt mileage, the "quoted" expected mileage is under ideal conditions. That being said you should be getting better than what you are. You don't give miles on the motor which may make a big difference.

Do any of your wheels have more brake dust than they used to. A stuck caliper will kill mileage. Also here in FL we had a week of 30 degree temps. Every morning the fluid in my diff and trans case was so thick that there was a 3-4 mpg decline in my mileage until it warmed up.

What year 4runner? In your sig it says 1990.....which means 2 things, you are in the wrong forum if your sig is correct, and its a 21 year old car which would explain your problem too.

Have you tried cleaning the MAF sensor up by the air filter, it can from what i read cause the engine to run "rich". Are you sure the check engine lights and VSC,VSC TRAC lights work?

This will cause the car to work harder, use MORE fuel and can/will make the car have bad emissions. It can be cleaned on many cars (although I cannot speak for 4R's) and its an easy part to install (once again....on many cars) Yours is probably super clogged.

EDIT: you changed it but haven't reset/cleared the code?

I was getting about 14 in the city on my 4runner....the other day I cleaned MAF sensor....man what a difference.. It feels like I got extra 10hp from a previous day and I get around 18mpg in the city now...I highly recommend it for $6.99

my 87 heavy of a pig 4runner is getting rig at 13 mpg on its 22re with an auto .Even with a new head and basically rebuilt kit execpt the piston rings and bottom end of it .Still gets crappy fuel economy . Should of never sold my Neon for this rig . oh well live goes .

i'm getting 15mpg avg.

Sometimes when I'm driving through the mountain roads I can get up to 17mpg.....lots of gas used climbing the mountain, but coasting/breaking most of the way down gives you GREAT MPG!
