Bad News!!! WRONG COLOR!!!

I ordered my 2007 Sport Edition V6 with Navigation on December 14, 2006. My salesman left me a message on Wednesday stating that it had just showed up on their inventory and to expect another 3-4 weeks. Then, he leaves another voice message yesterday stating that Toyota built it in the WRONG COLOR. It is Titanium Metallic and not Shadow Mica as I requested. Wouldn't that be the first thing you double check when building something???

I have the option of taking this one or attempting to re-order the Shadow Mica and waiting another 3-4 months. The dealer doesn't want to get stuck with it if I don't want it, but its not my fault. If you or someone you know might be interested in a 2007 Sport Edition V6 Titanium Metallic with Navigation and other options for $35,500, let me know. This vehicle would be in the Cincinnati, OH area. It is a great deal for all the options on it.

This error has really messed up things. I was planning on purchasing a jetski shortly after getting my 4Runner. Now, if I do ever get the right color, it will be sometime in July when jetski prices are high. I can't win for losing!!

Well I think I have vented enough...

That sucks! Sorry to hear about the mix-up.

There's no way the factory built the wrong color, though. The dealer or somebody else put the wrong color code on the order. I'd press the dealer to escalate the situation to either the regional or national sales office and see what they can do about finding the right vehicle (or one that's darn close but acceptable to you) and make this situation right. "Oops, let's try again" doesn't do it for me.

For what it's worth, Shadow Mica is color 1F4.

Is there any way I can contact the regional or national sales office directly? If they do have to re-order it, which they will have to since Toyota doesn't typically build Sport Editions with NAV, I would like my request put in at the top of their list. I shouldn't have to wait as long as the first time.

I just don't know who is responsible for the mix-up.

When I was getting tired of waiting for a Lexus and I wasn't getting any information from the dealer, I contacted the regional sales office directly. I really didn't get a whole lot of help, and all they did was call the dealer who then called me. The dealer was shocked that I found the regional office, and I think a little pissed off that I went over their head. That's why I'd get a manager of some sort at the dealer to make the call. Only when you've exhausted all avenues at the dealer would I escalate it personally.

It'll take a little research to find the regional office for your area, but once you know what city they're in, they should be listed in the phone book under "Toyota Motor Sales USA".

You can reach the U.S. national customer service line at 800-331-4331.

Man, that really stinks. Have you asked about getting a lower price becuase the color is wrong? I know you were set on a color, but maybe if you could handle the wrong one the dealer could take some money off the price and you guys can part as friends. Just a possibility. Good luck getting the runner you want.

From what I know about factory ordering, once the factory gets the actual order it takes about 2 months for production and to get it across the pond.

Anything longer than that is probably due to the time it takes the dealer to actually "order" it. I just did my deal yesterday, but my dealer was straight up and told me they only order about 4 times a year and the next one isn't until towards the end of April - which I am fine with.

Has your dealer done a search to see if any other that meets your criteria (however unlikely) exist on any other dealers lot *OR* in their production queue? They can see that if they look.

My dealer told me that the special order I was getting would have been the only one in the United States like that. I don't know, maybe I can live with Titanium Metallic. However, my girlfriend just purchased a 2007 Honda Pilot that is SILVER. So, I really would not like to have the same color.

I guess it depends on whether its already on the ship or not. My dealer is going to try to stop the shipment. If they can't, I might just take the Titanium Metallic. We'll see.

I'm just sick about it.

The dealer should be able to install a factory nav system for you, if not, you should be able to, so if you find another shadow mica without a nav, that could still be an option. Don't fell like you should have to take, (or sell for them) a car you don't want. if they messed up or did the wrong thing then that is their problem, not yours.

Good luck getting your car, and remember, your dealer can install most options at the dealer, or have them done at the port, after the car is there. So don't worry too much, you can find a close match and turn it into exactly what you want.

Dealer screwed up. FWIW, Titanium Metallic is 1D4. The 4Runner silver is pretty nice, it's a lighter color with good amount of flakes. It doesn't have the color shift like Shadow though. See if they're willing to discount the 4R since it's in the wrong color especially if they don't want to be stuck with it.

Can you still get the jet-skis and tow them with your GF's Pilot? That way you'll still get the 4R with the color and options you want.

The Silver is really nice, but you should get the color you want. Resale on the Silver will be a little better. Right now everyone wants Silver. When I picked up my Black one it was parked next to a Silver one and while I don't much care for Silver, on the 4Runner that might be the best color.

Silver is faster. gets better mpg to boot!

Just kidding. I had shadow before, ugh, nice, when its in the showroom. always dirty looking.

I have had 2 titaniums, nice stuff.

Don't Give In!

Hey Ruthdog, Sorry to hear about the screw up. Wait for a Shadow. You're putting out too much money to not get exactly what you want! Getting Shadow was my biggest hold up as well and as you know I had to travel to Cinncy to find exactly what I wanted. It appears they are producing more 4R's in Shadow this year as I'm seeing them on dealer lots more than last.

I'll check a few of the Pittsburgh dealers for you. Are you okay with dealer installed nav or must it be factory?

The Shadow Mica is an awesome color which never looks the same twice. I would definitely wait for it, I'm glad I did.

I am with the majority, when you spend $30K plus, you should get exactly you want. And since the dealer screwed up, it is their problem not yours. Don't let them talk you into it taking it. The only way I would take it off the dealer's hands is if they substantially reduced the already negotiated price. That's my $0.02.

Sorry to hear about this problem you are having.

I would be ok with a dealer installed factory NAV. That is really the option that is a must have for me on the Sport Edition. I have a feeling the dealer might have screwed up, but it doesn't matter really who screwed up at this point.

Tanker, that would be great if you can check around the Pittsburgh area for me to see if any dealer would be willing to install factory NAV into V6 Shadow Mica 4x4.

I looked at the Titanium Metallic on a dealer's lot near my home and I thought the color of the grill did not look right with the color of the vehicle. It might have just been the light, it was overcast.

I have been driving a 1996 Toyota Camry long enough...time for a 4Runner!!

I appreciate everyone's sympathy and thoughts on what I should do. Although my dealer did offer to take $500 off of the Titanium Metallic, I have decided to have the dealership re-order my Shadow Mica 4Runner. I agree that for over $30k, I should get what I asked for. Hopefully, Toyota agrees to build it again and in the correct color. This will be a long wait!

I'll keep everyone posted.

Ryan

You know I just saw an SE in Shadow Mica the other day after seeing this thread. That is an absolutely great color for the SE. I don't really like the Shadow Mica but on the SE, that's probably my favorite color.

It'll be worth the wait.

I am very glad to hear you decided to stick with your original choice of Shadow. You don't want to settle for anything less your heart desires. If you did settle on the Titanium, you would eventually drive around and see a Shadow runner and your heart would sink. You wouldn't be happy. Get what you really want is what I say, life is too damn short. Imho, Shadow Mica is THE color for an SE. The smoked chrome and graphite bars compliment the Shadow color quite well. Too many Titaniums running around here anyway. :p (btw no offense to anyone who has a Titanium, I love the silver but had to get shadow for my SE)

I agree

Just got a Shadow Mica Sport V8. The color is absolutely awesome. It's greenish in some lights, almost smoke brown in the setting sun, and a pearlescent black in poor light. Don't waver - get the color you want.

As for the color looking dirty - a dirty truck is a dirty truck, no matter what color it is. All the colors look bad when they're dirty, but Mica looks awesome when it's clean and shiny imho :bigok:

Hey Dush,

Seeing pics of your new Shadow Mica is what persuaded me to tell the dealership to re-order the Shadow Mica. It appears the Zaino worked well. What actually did you do to detail it after you got it? Thanks!! Enjoy your new ride!!

Ryan

Congratulations Ryan! You will not regret your decision.

What actually did you do to detail it after you got it?

A wash with Z-7 Show Car wash, to get rid of all the sand and grit from the rain on the way home from the dealership, and then a quick once-over with the Z-18 clay bar (to take out contaminants from shipping and the dealership lot), a quick coat of Z-2 Show Car polish, and some elbow grease.

Walk around the car and touch up water stains or other imperfections with Z-6 gloss enhancer spray.

And you're done!

And it shines like a mofo:dancin:
