Bad News

Soo.. Head Gasket went 2 days ago. Took it to a family shop and they said its a 16hr job and was going to be 2400 to replace but hes doing it for me for 1500 is this still worth it. I bought the truck for 1700.

I really like the truck and its in excellent condition as far as body and interior. It has 184k

A guy had a 10-year-old small car in the shop a couple of months ago when I was in for my safety. A head gasket repair was going to cost him either $480 or $720 in labour as they were figuring about 12 hours (forget whether they are $40 or $60 an hour). Don't know how much parts would be. Insane for a single fix.

Drop a 3.4 in there. It might be worth it if there is nothing else wrong with the 4runner. How many miles on it?

I have the receipt for the new Head Gasket I have on my 22re from they guy I bought my T4R from and it was only $540 parts and labor.... Get another quote!!!

The V6. Ive decided im just going to do it myself. Ive got a couple friends that can help and Id like the experience.

Look into doing a swap before hand, you might spend the same and have a better motor. Just food for thought.

You might already know but there was a recall on the head gasket of the 3.0 V6. Get the vin off your 4runner and call a dealer. They can tell if the recall work was ever done. If not might be fixed free! Otherwise fixing it yourself does sound like the best bet.
