Ok...so....I hiked the JMT (john muir trail) with my son last month so my car was sitting in Tuolumne Meadows on a dirt road (though in the shade for most of the time) for 3 weeks. I came home, and the plastidip just looked awful on the hood.
It had spots that wouldn't wash off, and the plastidip got scratched when I was trying to wipe the spots off too.
The plastidipped-everything-else (front bumper, rear bumper, rails, etc) looks fine. I think maybe it was just the additional heat from being on the metal of the hood, vs the plastic of the front bumper.
So...I went ahead and bit the bullet and paid for a vinyl shop to put a hood wrap on the hood. Honestly....it looks about...10 times better than the plastidip, and looks much cleaner. The vinyl shop also vinyl wrapped the hood scoop, though they did have to cut a separate piece for a small section of the interior of the scoop where it was too curved, but you can barely tell.
Cost $150 to get it done here locally.
Which....you'll also notice that ...a lot of my other plastidipped items are now gone too. I got the recent SSO slimline group buy that also included the TRD Pro grill with letters, so no more plastidip on the front! Plastidip was fun though...interesting to learn how to use the product. I'll probably use it again sometime in the future.
Oh...and the vinyl wrap shop thanked me for doing the plastidip well on the hood. I.e....I did enough coats so it was thick enough so it was easy to peel. They said they see a lot of plastidip and its much harder when its thin because it doesn't peel/breaks.
