bad steering box, 2003

Getting a front vibration, local mechanic says my steerng box is gone @ 105,000 miles. I have hardly off roaded. Anyone else have this problem?
Put on new tires, balanced twice and alinged.

There is no knocking noise. It feels like a warped rotor at slow speed or when applying the brakes. However I know warped rotos don't cause a vibration at high speed.

They don't???

I maintain they do especially if the '03 is experiencing the beginnings of a frozen/seized caliper.
