i just bought this t4r earlier this week (cheappp) so i havent had much time with it but while i was driving it home it wouldnt pass 50mph unless going down hill haha but it would hold 48ish at 3k rpms but if i gave it just a hair too much pedal the rpms would jump and the truck would slow down. i figured it was a bad tranny no big deal, my buddy is a rock crawler guy and i got a shop i can use but he says it MAY be the torque conv. he hasnt driven it yet tho. it does have a BHG but we put that goop in it so i could get it home. no over heating at all and i put in 3 qts of ATF so im just lookin to see if theres any exp. out there.. also it has a broken (now removed) front driver halfshaft axle. i just dont wanna replace the tranny if i dont have to yenno? any ideas are welcome.

how many miles on it? sounds like the transmission is slipping so your more than likely going to need a rebuild. depending on how many miles are on the thing the clutch packs in it could be worn out. if there was a lot of crap in the fluid then its very likely. I don't know how to check the Torque converter but either way youre gonna have to drop the tranny and if you have to replace the tranny I'd do the converter as well while you have it apart

It's got 174xxx. It's an auto as well. I was just running it up and down the road and it wouldn't slip. I wasn't able to get to highway speeds tho. 45 tops. I'm about to do a compression test on the engine cuz my buddy thinks it's the engine. Like I said, we couldn't get it to slip again.

well we broke the engine down to the bolock and discoverd that the head gasket was not blown.. but it did have a lot of issues. leaky injectors, mud in the radiator, which is why the tranny was overheating which i think would cause the slippage only at highway sppeds. also pretty sure it was only running on 4 cyl. lol so we're gonna flush all the fluids and replace a bunch of vacuum lines adn the water pump with new gaskets on most of the engine. so ill post another update once i get it back togeter. only lookin like another $300 and itll be running again. i just hope this cures the slipping issue so i dont have to get another tranny.

ok so i didnt even see the truck all weekend lol tho i did put in a new water pump and new timing belt. i just ordered new tranny filter, air filter, cap and rotor, wires and spark plugs, new radiator, and im getting all new fluids... is there anything else you think i should get? i have about 3 hours before the parts store closes and i cant order anything for tmrws big install.

oh and there is no fan shroud.. is it really that important?
and one of the green caps on a fuel injector broke.. but just the end so itll still have a seal (is that what it does?)

fan shrouds are pretty important. on the road youll be fine but any time u go off road and you spin the tires with little movement it will overheat. the shroud keeps it from getten hot sitten still. i hit a cow doing 45. my truck ran like that for a year so i have exp lol. you may want to say to hell with it and get a new o2 censor aswell. i have had problems with power due to em and they are pretty cheap.

alrighty. Ill get a shroud from pick n pull or something. im due for a run out there. well i put the engine back together and she started.. with a fuel leak.. it was from a banjo bolt on the fuel rail. missing crush washer. quick fix. then i drove it around a little bit and theres a coolant leak now and theres still no power.im thinking bad gasket on the intake manifold? coolant getting out and air/fuel ratio messed up from that? is there just the one o2 senser near the cat? or did i over look another one near the block on the exhaust manifold? im gonna get a high flow cat as well.. any good or bad comments on them? thx.

im 17 and i go to school for automotive. we just got done learning about auto trannys...torque converters dont usually wear...so it would prolly clutch packs as stated above by ther other guy lol

yea i dont know much about trannys lol but after ripping apart the engine it was a lot more than that. the spark plugs were worn down to almost nothing, the rotor and cap were toast as well, and there was mug in the radiator so everything was running hot. plus my oil cooler near the trans is really ugly and needs to be replaced. i should have the final engine stuff figured out tmrw then ill know for sure if its the tranny or not.

well i figured a few things out but i also found where the coolant leak was coming from.. the manifold.. DOD GAMMIT!!!1 well im gonna have to take it all apart again.. another day another problem lol gonna be solid when im done tho! ha

i fixed the coolant leak but timing is a PITA! i cant get the thing to stay running long enough for me to time it.. i moved the rotor around a bunch and got it to run smooth for a minute then the (park) idle rpms started rising passed 2.5k. then when i put it in gear R or D it went to normal. but it bogged down and died and now i cant get it to run anymore.. im new to this so any suggestions are more than welcome..

well the timing is fine.. i may just need a fuel pump. just need more info on checking it with the battery.. cant find anything for that specificly..
