Bad truck vibrations at 60+mph

I have a 98 with 200k that vibrates like crazy right at 60 and beyond. As soon as the needle goes below 60 trucks rides smooth again. I have had the tires rotated and balanced with no solution. Tires are old and kind of bald on the insides. (Bought it 7 months ago)

Have new 285's, toytec boss lift, control arms and ball joints being put on in a week or so but wanted to know what anyone thought as to what the issue could be? U joint? Bad tires/alignment?

Could be the drive shaft, Ujoints, alignment or bad tires. Could be something else in the steering/suspension, it's hard to say though...

I had that with a used rear driveshaft I picked up. Put the stock shaft back in and it goes away. Taking the used driveshaft in to get rebuilt this week as I hate dealing with u-joints without a bench and vise.

But as thegipper stated it could be a lot of things.

with 60 MPH and higher it is a drive shaft/U joint issue. drop drive shafts and inspect for wear and or binding of the joints.

tires bad will do this at all speeds. out of balance tires at certain speeds.

its a drive train issue. using the proper tools you can pop out the old joints and push in new.. check out harbor freight for the tool its 60 bucks.

using a torch is need sometimes to get the rusted u joint to pop out.

using the hammer be careful DO NOT WACK THE EARS.

I can second the drive shaft as the problem.

My 97' had the same vibration at 60+ and my mechanic said that the shaft was bent. We replaced it and all is good now.

My vibration above 60mph was mostly the tires when I 1st got the truck, got a new set of tires and it was smoother, until I had the wheels balanced on Hunter machine at TiresPlus and it's been smooth since. Just my experience.

Thanks a lot. Having a local mechanic here in Northglenn Co install a bunch of stuff next week and i described to him the issue and he suggested it might be the u joint too. Just wanted to throw it out there to see if there were any other possibilities. Seems like it is probably the case! Thanks again
