Baja Expedition Rack for 3rd & 5th Gen 4Runner

I went with the Bajarack for several reasons:
1. I have a need to mount a roof top tent on 3rd or 5th gen 4R.
2. Wanted a low profile clean install.
3. I don’t want the sunroof covered.

My initial plan was to buy the 3rd gen Expedition rack & mounts that are currently available off the self from Bajarack. Along with the 3rd gen rack I would also purchase the 5th gen mounts from there standard non-expedition rack then weld some plates to the third gen rack & make it work for the 5th gen. But after talking to the folks at Bajarack it was suggested that I buy the 5th gen expedition rack (I did not know one was available) and they would weld the plates for the 3rd gen mounts & supply those also. So in the end this is a semi custom rack due to the additional mounting points.
I will use the rack on the 3g for the close in trips and the 5g on the longer trips.

So far so good, the install went well everything lined up. The only issue I see at this point is with the window awning on the tent that faces the front of the truck. There is a pole that comes out off the base of the tent to hold the awning out & the wind deflector will need to be modified using a hole punch tool & a rubber grommet to make things work.

Photos with it mounted on the 3G below, photos mounted on the 5G to follow….

Wow that setup looks great!

Maybe I missed it, though... how did you get a BajaRack *without* the side rails? Was it a semi-custom order? Could you also get it without the wind fairing on the front? I'm thinking about options for a flat, full length, low profile rack. Gobi prices are way up there, and I don't think their stealth rack is completely flat anyway (follows the roof contour, I think), so when I saw your set up it really caught my attention. Thanks.

The rack without the sides is the "expedition" rack model. It was designed for using a roof top tent.
