Baja rack for 3rd gen?

After a considerable amount of research, I am 2nd guessing my thinking in buying a Baja rack. Apparently there was a major defect in the 5th gens that caused some serious dents & damage with relatively poor customer service (eventually they did replace the recalled rack feet).

I am wondering about defects for the 3rd gen?

I realllllllly would rather save the 500 bucks from buying a Gobi, and i'm gonna need a full full rack (gobi isn't as long as Baja) for 33" tire, gas cans and SUP's and surfboards.

Would love to hear about some 1st or 2nd hand experience with Baja.

Thank you!!

Both of these guys are in SoCal and make 3rd gen full length racks for roughly the same price as the Baja rack. Odds are you'd be able to customize it a bit more with the overall style and flooring too. Picture links are broken in the second link thanks to Photobucket, but you could probably dig up some photos on Google images or find one of his other threads.

Flemster recently released (for preorder) the much anticipated full length aluminum racks he has been designing. Price was set at $800 and shipping is likely around only $40-50 due to the rack being bolt together.

The pics on the website are still unpainted versions without complete mounting shown, but that will be updated soon I am sure.

Thanks everybody! I'm going to explore each of these options. I'm wondering if anyone has had a successful experience with the 3rd gen Baja racks?
