Baja Rack *Group Buy* Summer 2015

Does the 4th gen have a removable piece for the sunroof? Any updates. I was surprised to see this group buy since they just had a gobi buy alot of people got in on.

I am not sure if I will do another "cross" GB.... the experience wasn't too good.... but feel free to let me know what you want here.... when I am doing the negotiation, I will try to get stuffs for both 4R and Taco.

In regard of the cross group buy, you can always put a limit of participants from other forums so you wont be so overwhelmed.

Say 10? 15?

making sure to leave some room for the participants from here also

Just an idea to consider, especially to increase buyers and increase savings.
 
Do we have any updates? I know its wishfull thinking, but im going to colorado for the first time next month and this rack would be a huge help for my trip.

Sorry to say...... due to the nature of GroupBuys, timing is a little hard to guarantee.... so if you have specific needs, I'd recommend that you go with the more traditional route, order from a local place or a dealer/manufacturer who has the product in stock and can ship to you right the way.....

For groupbuys, generally, we need the "numbers" to be able to negotiate a significant discount...... and sometimes it will take a while to get to that "number". Plus the fact that on a large order, it may take the manufacturer/vendor a little longer to fill. So..... one should try not to put too much expectation/estimation into the exact timing....

Just my 2cents..... from the little experiences I have about "group buys".... :boom:

You need to understand that not every manufacturer who put up a webpage or some pictures of some one-off design has the manufacturing capability to produce quantities of quality products.

Some may even take your money and disappear on you.

Vetting manufacturers and vendors is part of my routine when organizing group buys. I do my due diligence to make sure that our members will get the promised products and that the products is of quality. A lot went on behind the scene than just getting the a few bucks off your bill.

I am always open to looking into other products, but not until I had done my homework and vetted the vendors/manufacturers...... and at the same time, concluded that I can personally endorse such vendor/manufacturer, I won't host a group buy for them.
 
That's the only rack I knew that was made for the 5th gens, so the only one I have been interested in. The gobi looks a lot better, but to me is that worth the $600 extra. Not really.

Would I have to drill holes to mount this one, can I use it with a gobi ladder?
What is the longevity compared?
Will I have bolts rattling loss all the time?
What are the load capacities?

You will not have to drill holes into any of Baja's racks. Installing a GOBI ladder should be no problem, but I believe there is a clearance issue with the top bracket for the ladder that interfere's with the rack. You will need to do some grinding/ modifications to fit it. I looked into this myself and based my answer from this thread:

Longevity is good, but again the build quality between the two is noticeable. IMO they are both great racks, but I bet you will have more life out of the GOBI.

Not if you install it properly and seal all the points of contact with the roof....

For the money, I think the flat rack would be the way to go. If you were interested in something like the long-rack, I would just bite the bullet and place an order with GOBI. Both racks are good, but again a GOBI is that much nicer....

I like that everything is pre wired and reading about it, the rack is better built.

It sucks I thought the baja was the Gobi all this time. Looking bad on it I see how stupid that was.
