Baja Rack Quality

Hello everyone,

I've had my 4runner for about a year and now starting to slowly add and change things. I've been lookng at a baja rack, but I've seen posts about rust, and even dents in the roof. I've also seena couple posts saying they changed powdercoat supplier, and that their quality control has gotten better. Those posts are from 2015/2016 though. I can't seem to find any good new information. Has anyone bought and used a baja rack in the last year. Has everything been working well?

I don't know about the mounting on the Runner, but I have had 3 rack from Baja Rack on my FJ's and never had an issue with shipping damage or their powdercoat. One rack was on my FJ for over 6 years and was in great condition. It is still in service on a buddies FJ. The only issue I ever had was the clearcoat on the wind deflector coming off. Would be a quick fix with a little sanding and a spray can.

Mine has been on for a little over 2 yrs. No issues w powder coating, pretty solid rack. Haven't noticed any denting under the mounts but I also haven't loaded it with more than 200 lbs. I read the same threads about the mounts, so I haven't stood on it and have distributed the weight evenly.

I have had no issues with mine and it has been on, in the sun for the better part of two years. I think its a solid rack.

Baja Rack quality

I have the flat utility rack from Baja Racks. No mesh floor or sun roof cut-out (no sun roof on my truck) . It's been on for about 2 years. No Rust.

Just like the RCI skid plates and my Domello rock rails, I paint all of the powder coated steel accessories I buy with two coats of Rustoleum paint for added protection and scratch resistance. That paint is really tuff for these kinds of parts.

I bought mine custom built to eliminate the half loop around the satellite antenna. It just clears the shark fin. This makes it easier to load long lumber, canoes and other big stuff.

The feet do rest on the roof and could be improved with 1/4" neoprene rubber pads below each Baja Rack mounting foot/leg. After I installed the rack feet and waterproofing at the OEM anchor bolts, I added 1/4" neoprene rubber that I cut a little oversized in a rectangle to fit between the top of the Baja Rack mounting foot/leg and the rack mounting point. After I finished raising the rack 1/4" I wish I'd put the rubber pad on the roof under the foot/leg, not on top of the foot. Live and learn.
