Front, back, side, 1/4, closeups of the feet, whatever you can get! These are some good looking racks guys, the more pics the better! I'd like a shot where you can see the top of the truck as well, does your truck have a sunroof?

New guy here- I am looking for a rack for my '00 to haul a 17' canoe on some pretty long trips into the North (8hrs each way).
Love the long baja rack and it may be worth the extra $$ compared to a regular Thule (for example).
Anyone have any thoughts on why the Baja long rack would be a bad idea? Any other ideas?
My 4Runner only has rails, no stock roof rack.
Anyone else haul canoes in here? I searched for a thread but couldn't find much.

I dont have any experience hauling canoes but i have experience with several different types of other boats on roof racks... i think youd be fine even just with the rails (which i guess your missing.. but are inexpensive to pick up used).. but this rack will be A OK to hold a canoe.. unless its made of gold.

Ya- it's basically between a basic Thule set up that will cost $300-400 or a quality rack that will be closer to $900 to get it to my place in Canada.
The canoe is Royalex and weighs about 60lbs so I think it would be great.
Plus, it looks about 100x better than a stock or aftermarket traditional rack!

I've read a number of threads comparing the Gobi Steal rack and the Baja racks.
A common theme seems seems to be the Gobi's are stronger but I see they both have a maximum weight capacity of 300lbs. Although, Gobi says they have a static weight capacity of 600lbs for tents. Further, there is an optional sunroof insert to give the Gobi another 150lb and 10sq feet capacity.
So, they are effectively the same weight restrictions for what I would use it for.
Given the significant cost differences ($1,400 vs $800), I think the Baja is the play!

Dang, that full-length Baja rack is cool...
So how do I go about increasing the weight capacity for the roof? Install another set of rails inside the factory set? Seems like the limiting factor is not how much the aftermarket rack can hold, but how much the factory rails can hold.

Luke - check out this article on how to reinforce the roof. Additionally, there's a difference on the dynamic roof load rating and a static roof load rating. I'm pretty sure the dynamic (car moving) roof load rating is 150 lbs per Toyota. Gobi likely lists 600 as the roof load rating for a tent because they anticipate the weight of the tent plus two occupants. The weight of the rooftop tent + Gobi rack would be much closer to the 150 lbs recommended by Toyota.
