Anybody have this rack?

Does it interfere with sunroof use at all?

How do the front legs attach to the roof?

As soon as I have a spare $1000, I'll be installing one :biggrin2:
My understanding is that you can tilt the sunroof open with out interference and that the forward legs just sit on the roof, atop some foam tape.
 
personally i don't understand the group's fascination with roof racks. roof rack plus lights = terrible gas mileage and what little aerodynamics the 4Runner had to begin with will be out the window.

Honestly, if I cared about my gas mileage I wouldn't be driving a 5000 pound brick, and if I can't afford a 1 MPG hit, I should probably ride the bus

Um, I think you might be thinking of the Gobi rack which is $1000. $1200 if you add the ladder...

And yeah Brian, Why would anybody want to add more cargo capacity to their truck? Makes no sense...:shrug: :jk:
I know I want a rack because I didn't buy a Tacoma, therefore I don't have a truck bed. Its nice to have a place you can put things that are an odd shape, or otherwise wouldn't fit in the trunk.
Plus im not gonna put anything greasy, rusty, stinky or generally dirty inside my baby(lol, that's what she said I know I know). That's where the roof rack comes in.

Thanks. I've been in touch with BajaRack about these issues. You are right on.

Personally, I want a roof rack for my spare (255/85/16) that won't fit underneath. I also don't care for the rear carrier options because I am constantly opening the hatch. I know the downsides to the spare on top (aerodynamics, higher COG, etc.), but I'm willing to live with it.

i feel the same way and thats why when i build mine im gonna make a fold down light bar, so i can fold it up when needed and fold it down for driving, good idea eh?

You need that Motorized Lighting Systen that Lucrum built. That thing is awesome!
 
I have the third gen Bajarack. I have the shorter one not the extended version. One thing I love about it is the low profile. I have 33's, OME's, and a one inch body lift and I still can fit it in my garage with a few inches to spare!!!!

If you mount your HiLift on there just be sure you put it Jack turned down as I almost ripped off my garage door with it going the other way:wow2: There HiLift mount though expensive works great. I have the HiLift neoprene cover on it so it doesnt scratch the paint or break the window. Works great.

Do you guys have the mega mule or regular mule? Do the supplied brackets bolt on to the factory rails?

The Bajarack website lists the mule for $295. Thats cheap! However, I see on Trdparts4u.com, it is $425 and is specifically a "3rd gen Baja Rack". What exactly are the differences (besides what looks to be dimensions).

The third gen specific bolts to the factory ralis and sits about an inch off the roof. a very clean look. All the hardware is supplied.
 
Anybody have experience with the BajaRack and ski/ bike racks? I like the look and the idea it mounts to the rails and not the crossbars but would be curious to know how well it works with additional items.

Since this is the rack thread: how much does that full length rack cost shipped? If I ever get a roof rack, that'll be the one.
 
I have a full length bajarack on my truck . To answer the OP's question, yes the sunroof is still fully functional. Just a lot more wind noise (even with the fairing). Now, as far as fuel economy: the effects are minimal if noticeable at all. I ordered my rack in the 5"inch tall version (most that you see, with the arched sides, are 6" tall) because I think it looks a lot better and it sits lower to the roof. In the end, I might see at most, a 5-10 mile per tank difference. Now yes, if you go throwing a bunch if 6-7" lights up there, you will see your mpg's drop drastically. However, there are plenty of low profile alternatives to choose from these days. I myself am going with some led lights up there for there low profile, low power draw and high output. In the end, if you go with the right rack, your economy will only be minimally effected (until you load it down, of course :driving:). If you want economy, buy a corolla.
