Here are a few pics of my Limited after removing the roof racks, and before installing my new rack. Thought some folks might want to see what that looks like on a black one...I like it, but I need a rack for things!

Looks good without anything up there. I am thinking of going with the Baja rack as well. Are you just going to use a clear silicone to waterproof where it mounts? This may be asking a lot, but I would love to see a picture with arrows pointing to where you are waterproofing (other than the bolt threads). I have only seen the mount location via pictures as I haven't removed mine yet.

Not a big fan of silicone.... Amost always fails whenever I have used... adhersion issues.

If unseen, small amounts of Vulcum works best for outdoor applications and can be found in black.

Others mentioned that they used silicone and I had the same thoughts about failure. Is Vulvum available at hardware stores? I will check into it, but I am starting to get gun shy about doing this and may just get a basket that mounts to the factory crossrails. Just not sure about clearance issues in my garage.

I used silicone with no problems. Basically there are two white bolt guides that fit into the holes in the roof. I ran a bead around them and then sealed the bolts with loctite and rubber washers. I have yet to get a leak and it's been outside during some serious rainstorms.

I used Permatex Ultra Black RTV Silicone Gasket Maker. Bought it at Advance Auto Parts. I was in a HUGE hurry when I installed the rack, and failed to take pics of that! I am sorry! However, there is another post of that in the Baja Rack Thread I think. Got to use the rack this weekend during a small mishap with my tires on my first t4r road trip...see my other post today...gettin ready to post it.

John at Baja Rack says that all you need to do is a bead around the white tubes, and then put some on the threads themselves. I am very concerned about leaking, so I made sure to do this, but it is important to NOT overdo it because then you can create a place for water to collect around the bolts. Water needs to be able to flow freely up and down those roof rack channels under the rubber...

I overdo everything and would constantly be stressed that I screwed this up. I talked with someone at Gobi who said I didn't need to use anything to waterproof theirs, just not sure why it would be any different. The rack does look great though and I know I would find it useful if I was confident of the weatherproofing.
