Bandit Dual Swingout Rear Bumper Build **COMPLETED**

Ill start off by saying I'm 16 whether that goes for or against me.

You might have seen the thread by my uncle [MENTION=102168]owyheerat[/MENTION] on his dual swing bumper build/shoutout.
I began gaining interest in the bumper after I got my 4runner and realized how cool of a 4runner my uncle had, he built his in our shop(my dads) and that is where mine is being created as well! I loved the look and lines that the bumper has and realized I can make it for waayyyy cheaper than buying one.

I'd also like to give a shoutout to [MENTION=55891]Bandit Runner[/MENTION] The plans he created are AWESOME! He made is very easy to work with and can accommodate most need/wants that one might have for their bumper. The plans included Full Step-By-Step Drawings and if any of you ever played with legos you'd know that "picture plans" make it very easy to make something:thumb3: Also included where VERY detailed written plans I didn't even have to use the written plans because of how easy the "picture plans" made it. He also includes the dimensioned drawings of all parts. Plus all the files needed to get the 3/16" plate cut out precisely on a Plasma Table.

Some things to note:
- I rebuilt the main crossbeam and mounts because I messed up on the first ones.
-I ordered the wrong size nuts (1-1/8") The bolts are 1-1/4"

Update! 12/26/17

Today I started working on all the clean up of the grinder welds, I hadn’t kept the grinder strait enough so it made multiple dips...after a day of work I got 1 side done, the other side should go quicker. I also picked up some primer to be sprayed out of our HVLP sprayer!

I'd recommend skipping the hvlp spray ons and springing for powder coating. I know the extra cost sucks but it's way more durable. I have some touch up areas I did on my bumper with hvlp and it's already chipping but the power coat is not chipped at all. Great work so far

We have a pretty nice hvlp machine(not that that changes much but it could?) I would go for powdercoat but if you ask my uncle you’ll know I change the colors of stuff on my rig so much that it’d be a waste of money, aswell as I tend to change/add alot and I don’t want to destroy the powdercoat if I do that, other than the fact that I change stuff powdercoating it was very intriguing to do! And thanks for the kind words!!

Update! 12/27/17

Today I am hoping to get the painting started on this thing. This morning I will be finishing grinding/sanding/patching holes in the welds then will begin prepping for paint!

Update! 12/28/17

Today I worked on getting everything finished up and getting all the slide blocks on and corrected, I also used spot putty(bondo) to fill in some little holes in the welds that I didn’t want to reweld and grind.

Looking great! If you have access to one Id suggest running over the entire bumper with a dual action polisher with an 80 grit sand pad. I did this on my gas tank skid and It made a huge difference on how smooth the seams came out vs my bumpers, Ill eventually go back and do the same thing to the bumpers.

I used a grinding disk to remove most of the welds then I used an 80 grit flap disk(not sure if that’s the same thing?) then I used our strait line pneumatic sander with 120 grit to make all the edges as strait as possible. Once I’m back home after New Years I’ll be hand sanding the bondo off then prepping for paint, I was hoping to paint it before I left but that didn’t happen...

Update! 1/1/18 Happy New Years!

Today I got back from a little vacation my family was on, finally going to be able to work on the bumper again! I got the bondo sanded off and finished up all the little stuff for the latching system, I also received the latch!
