bandpass sub in 2004

I was wanting to put a sub in my 2004 limited, while keeping as much cargo space as possible. Would it be effective to build a bandpass sub to fit in the bottom level of the 2-level trunk? If so, what type of subs/amps do yall suggest?

I was thinking doing the same, but it seems like it would be a tight fit. But I was thinking about a sealed box. Now I am leaning to making a fiberglass box for a single 10" to fit in the left side, something similar to the Qlogic box for the 3rd generation 4Runner. I still need to take measurements and make some good plans, since fiberglass mistakes can be hazardous and permanent.

If you ask me, I think a better option would be a type I box (sealed) simply because the ports would be blocked by the upper level of the split cargo system. You could possibly get around this by placing the box on its side so that the ports fire to one side, but I'm not sure what effect this would have (probably minimal).

I'm in the process of upgrading my system right now and I went with a 12" Alpine Type R with a type II box (sealed/ported combo). The type II's have a port but it comes sealed. You can easily open it if you so desire or close it. It doesn't have the serious "boom" of a type IV (bandpass) box, but what it DOES have is the tight, quality bass for sound enthusists. I'm adding a panasonic DVD system with a 5.1 decoder built in, so I'm personally interested in having the nice sound for my mobile theater as well as for music. It's really all a matter of personal taste: do you want some tight quality bass, or do you want the boom?

where the ports face does not really matter. just have to consider port length and area in a ported. a bandpass is extremely difficult to build and tune because it is very unforgiving to mistakes. sealed is really is to build and ported is also fairly easy. not to step on any toes, but type I. II, IV are classifications used by qlogic not general. a sealed box is the simplest box and has the least noticeable peaks. ported is much louder but will peak at the frequency it is tuned to, bandpass has different number of peaks depending on what order it is. i would stay away from a bandpass box. if you want loud bass, go with a ported box, if you want a more subtle and slightly more refined bass go with sealed. just as an idea, i am working on a 03 4runner limited for a guy and am building a box that will be the size and shape of the wheel wells and go all the way across. i am doing sealed with an integrated amp rack and corssover rack. if you only are doing subs, a ported box there would be good since you have a good amount of airspace.

I agree ... I would definitely go for a sealed box ... As long as you have it made to your speaker's specs, it'll sound great ... I used to use Rockford Fosgate subs and I've been pretty satisfied with them ... although, I think I'm goin for JL's this time around ...
