Just curious if anyone uses these tablets?

I was recommended them by a few folks and shops that use them as preventive maintenance. I did a bit of research and it seems some manufactures use a similar product in their vehicles. I do not know if there is any truth behind that though.

Saturn put a tablet in the cooling system of their S series at the factory.

If one’s cooling system is up to snuff, why would one need them?

If your cooling system needs a good cleaning, I would use a flushing agent followed up with new coolant. If you change your coolant every 5 years or so, the system should stay very clean and you won't need the tablets.

However, I do realize people inherit poorly maintained cooling systems. But fresh fluid and/or flushes really makes a big difference it keeping the corrosion at bay.

It is more expensive but if you want to make sure your cooling system is in great shape, drain the system, fill with distilled water and add a bottle of Thermocure flush (WalMart) Make sure to run the heater (Front AND back if you have rear heat) to clean out the heater core. Drain, fill again with distilled water, run, drain, fill again with distilled water, drain and fill with a 50/50 mix of Toyota Red and distilled water.

You would be amazed at how much dirty stuff comes out of the system and heater core. Three "rinses" with the distilled water and then the coolant mix. Your coolant will look like new for a long time after this and your truck will thank you.
