Battery...700cca??

So I was up at the stealership this morning gettin my oil changed (only because i get free oil changes for life...never go to the stealer for anything) and they checked my battery and showed me that it was only putting out 535 cca. They of course told me that I need a new battery but I said no.

The thing is I have no issues what so ever with my truck. It is the original battery tho. but still its only an 04. I have the v8 so its a pretty bigg battery in there.

This sound right or should I get it tested somewhere else?

Anyone replace their battery? Cost?

They probably started your truck shut it off and then ran the battery test so it was drained a bit. I think the rule of thumb with car batteries is replace them every 3-5 years so you may want to consider it just because you are approaching 5 years.

Mine is a 2003, the batterry died last year(Summer). Since you have a 2004, Its really due time to replace your original panasonic batt. The dealer replaced mine. If I remember, the batt cost $90 plus tax, disposal etc...total was $112, but I got a reabate for my "core return". And I only paid $90+. I have the warranty and a 25 percent off on my next purchase( printed in my receipt)

The 4Runner replacement batt isonly 550cca. They suggested an option on the Land Cruiser/Tundra batt for a $5 additional and thats the one installed in my 4Runner.

During that time, I'ved been doing research on the orig Panasonic batt, its not sold here in the US, Those ones in Wallmart are generic type.

thanks guys guess i prob should replace it after all. not trying to get stuck somewhere. stealer told me the battery was like 98.50 or somethin...130 with install. ill jus buy the batt since install is easy.

Get the top of the line WalMart Everstart battery. Guaranteed 3 years and serviced by WalMart's everywhere. I put them in everything. I believe they are made by Yuasa.

anyone know the brand of the toyota batteries? or are they just toyota?

If you don't have high power consumption electronics like amps, 710cca is ok, I don't have problems since the replacement. Ask for a rebate for your core return( Give them your panasonic batt, your batt is already 4-5 yrs - won't serve you long from now, the rebate/discount is $12-$20)

Sounds like they just want your money. My battery is probably 5 years old and I run ~1,000 watts for my audio and I don't have any problems really. I took it to AAA for an oil change and they ran the battery test too and said it was time to replace it...that was last summer. Lol.

If you don't need a bigger battery the ones from Walmart or AutoZone are fine. If you want a little bigger battery check out the Optimat series, yellow and red tops.

if you want a battery thats lasts 12 years, can be fully discharged unlimited times, metal cased, check out the odyssey batteries. my last jeep had one, (winching & all) well worth the extra $. they may be a bit overkill depending on the model , but youll never be let down. better gauge wires help also. its worth a look at, im just trying to help.

I took my '04 V8 in for a 60K service and was told it failed the load test on the battery. Never one to trust a dealership (even tho my Toyo one has not been caught at anything shady and my service advisor is the best I've seen) I took it to Pep Boys for a 2nd opinion. My batt failed the load test there too. Volts were OK at about 13.25.

A Bosch 27F battery at the Pep Boys was $104.26 uninstalled. I didn't even check Sears because I have such bad luck with recent Diehards.

I had a 15% off coupon from the dealership so I scored an Truestart 0054427F60710 for $94 out the door. The 710cca battery was only $2 more than the 600cca. Excellent fit and here's hoping she's as good the original Panasonic. Wonder why we can't get these batteries in the US of A?

But It needs to be replaced since it still fails the battery tester we have at work which are much more advanced than sears, Autozone or any other autoparts store. Alber cellcorders - About $7-$10 grand each. 576CCA is a 20% loss of capacity for our 720CCA factory batteries. I just orderd a Optima 34R Redtop Battery (R = Reversed Post) from www.amazon.com for $142 with free standard shipping. 800CCA - 1000CA

I load tested the battery in my 04 recently and it only measured 450CCA for a 5 year old battery. It has been in the teens and 20s here for the last week in the morning and it has started everytime. I am also in the market for a new battery based on that test because any time a battery is 20% below the rated value it is showing signs of deterioration and it is time to be replaced.

I maintain large facility UPS systems with 30+ batteries and that is the standard we go by for replacement. Granted those are all "deep cycle" Batteries but it even applies to our engine generator starting batteries. This is all at an Air Traffic Control Tower. We maintain 4 large facility UPS and 7 Engine generators, some as big as 225KW V-12 Detroit Diesels, And those are still considered small.

One more thing to remember our battery post are reversed. If you are looking at the battery with the posts closest to you the Neg is on the left and the Pos is on the right. That is the way they are usually displayed in the stores. Most batteries you see in the stores the Pos is on the left and the Neg is on the right.

Don't forget to apply for your rebate on that Optima.

You did notice the review about Amazon not being an authorized Optima dealer and refusing to honor someone's warranty? I emailed customer service myself, but didn't exactly get a warm-n-fuzzy enough feeling from their response to take the chance with Amazon. Looks like a Duralast Gold 24F ($85) for me when my original '03 Panasonic finally decides to die for good.

Recommended Battery Maintenance:
In addition to this new pre–delivery battery test, a monthly battery inspection is still required for stored vehicles. If your dealership is located in an area subject to extreme temperatures (hot or cold), periodic maintenance may need to be performed more frequently.

To reduce parasitic battery drain on vehicles in storage for one week or more, the negative (–) battery cable should always be disconnected to reduce battery discharge.

When the negative (–) battery cable is reconnected, please check and reset electrical components, such as the clock, radio, etc., and re–initialize all applicable systems/functions.

Refer to the appropriate model and year service bulletins for specific details.

Optima 34R Installed!!

Installed my Optima 34R last night. Actually I removed the Factory Panasonic battery from my 08 and put it in my 04 (Which really needed a battery) and put the Optima in the 08. Only took me 10-15 minutes to remove two batteries and install two. If you do it fast enough you don't even lose the radio presets. I did have to reinitialize all the windows and moonroof in both. Very easy.

I was happy with the shipping from Amazon, Ordered on 8/22 - received on 8/26. It even came with the $25 rebate postcard. You only have until 8/31 to get in on the rebate. $117 after rebate and free shipping is not a bad deal.

The Height adapter is required. The cables were a bit of a strech but worked out fine. The only tool/tools needed was a 10mm openend wrench or socket.
