Side note here, Costco batteries (Kirkland) are really Interstate Batteries and Interstate makes all batteries for Toyota in the US. So I vote Costco as well as it is great battery at a great price.

My Panasonic in the 2007 was going strong until I began to see the blue eye glass view finder in the battery turn totally clear. Battery after seven years was on its last legs even though it was starting fine.
I had just replaced my Harley AGM battery after only three years, even on the battery tender plus so I was unfortunately... in 'battery buying mode'.
With the Colorado winter coming, I looked around and read some reviews.
I narrowed it down to the Autozone 27F for around $120.00 or the Toyota True Start 27F for $99.00
There are tons of Toyota dealers and Autozones around so warranty replacement would be no problem.
Either one would work fine and I bought the Toyota battery with a longer warranty.

My little sensor is clear now... So even if I add distilled water it won't go back to blue?
You could add distilled water... but everything I've read about the battery, the glass viewer... tells me that the battery is near its end. When it will go... who knows? These Panasonic batteries are tough!
You've got to add a solution, a 'chemical charger' to reactivate the battery and this is a hit or miss as far as what I've read.
Rather than get into this 'mess'... I simply bought a new battery, installed it and during the very cold weather of recent... the 4Runner started strong.
I've been having some shakey starts lately. Especially in the morning but even sometimes after I've just parked and gotten back in shortly after to leave again. And I think after all is said and done, I will just buy a new battery... Will be sad to see Ms. Panasonic go esp since I can't get another one in the states :-(

that's a sign the battery is failing. initial voltage is too low. replace the batter.

That's the beauty of the Panasonic.
Add distilled water only to bring all 6 cells back up to the high level. Take it for a good run and it will start to properly recharge. It will take time (maybe weeks depending on how much you drive.)
Your battery is still working so you can bring it back to a normal charge. I've added checking the fluid as a regular maintenance item and saved spending when not necessary. I know it won't last forever but why not keep it alive? Why replace something when all it needs is proper maintenance?

The battery options given are all great batteries. I would stick with the group size 27f in any of the brands because it will give atleast 700CCA's like the factory Panasonic and should last about as long.
I did the 27f Truestart from the dealer and it has PLENTY of starting power at 10 degrees.

if you do this, I highly recommend to use a trickle charger after topping it off. give it a good 8-10 hours of low amp charge. its better for the battery, and MUCH better for the alternator.

Ok so just running it/driving it around won't be a good enough charge after topping it off? I can probably charge it over night. 8-10 hours... at what amperage? IDK about this stuff... maybe I should just swing for the new battery. Getting into deep water here :behindsofa:

driving it could take days/weeks to get it up, if it ever does. the alternator isn't really designed to CHARGE a dead battery, its purpose is to maintain what is lost from starting, and then to provide power for the accessories. its very hard on the alt when used with a low battery.
you have to remember, if you top off the water, you are diluting the acid that's in there. it needs to be recharged to get back up to 100%
1-2 amps overnight would be great.
