battery question

I want to preface this by saying I haven't looked into a battery purchase in over 5 years...
but most of my racing buddies all run Interstate. They also preach authorized dealers on these...

i just had an interstate that died on me yesterday, less than 5 years old, says 85 month guarantee, can i get money back ? or does it go towards the credit for a new one ?

They will credit give you a prorated credit for the battery. Just take the battery back to the auto parts store and they will take care of you.

Within 30 months of the date of original purchase, batteries with a total warranty of 85 months will be replaced free of charge (except for taxes and legislatively-imposed fees, where applicable).....After the free replacement period and for the remaining number of months of designated warranty period, the original purchaser may obtain a replacement battery of similar size upon payment of a prorated charge based upon the then current published cost per month which is based on the then published List Price of the battery multiplied by the number of full months elapsed since the date of original purchase.

I know I'm late to the party here, but Costco's batteries used to be the exact same thing as the DieHard Gold with a different label. I know the newer Costco batteries are gel-based, so maybe now they're the same as the DieHard Platinum? Somewhere between gold and plat? IDK. (They are made by Johnson Controls)

Either way, you can't beat the warranty on Costco's car batteries.

Bumping this thread because I researching the purchase of my next battery. Looked on the Consumer Reports webpage, and their saying Die Hard Platinum is the best money can buy. Had a DH Gold, but that went dead on me just under 3 years. When I replaced it I was unemployed, so I went with a NTB Cheapo 3000. I'm not sure how long that's going to last. I'm making some decent money now. So I'm wondering if I should go ahead and replace my battery, or replace it when it dies, and with what?

I had my old DH Gold since 02, after 8 years of running it.. she finally quit.

I replaced it with another DH Gold, I would have went with the Plantium but it was a bit more than I wanted to spend..

Don't get me wrong, the Plantium is nice..

Not too long. Maybe a year. I was really really suprised when the Gold went bad. The original battery lasted for 8 years.

This is a funny thread. 95% of all batteries made are from Johnston Controls. They are pretty much the same across the board with all lines being comparable (Gold with Gold and Silver with Silver). I would buy your next battery at the most convenient shop near you; who offers the best warranty. Just save your receipts with your registration. I like autozone and Advance because they will install for free and the have no nonsense warranty on their stuff.

FWIW - I had a two and a half year old battery go weak on a Diesel Benz (cold cranking amps wasn't there when really cold).It would start up fine in regular weather but when it was freezing, it would crap out. Took it to Advance, they tested it and found it was bad. The replaced it for free. Popped it out and popped in a new one right there on the spot. The only bad thing is that the new Battery only carries the residue warranty of the battery it replaced.
