Well, just now my battery quit on me..

my question is.

what should I replace it with?

Optima Red Top? Die Hard?

I went to Advance Auto and got their gold series for 90 bucks. It has a 3 year replacement warranty so I would just do that. A yellow top is almost double that price.
 
had it gone down hill? has their quality control at Optima went down hill?

the current battery lasted me over 8 years and it was a Die Hard Gold.
If I can get the same out of the next Die Hard, I would be quite happy..

I want to stay away from Autozone, Carquest since all I heard is leaking, doesn't hold charger and all the other stuff..

I ran a red top on my 96, I bought it when I installed my stereo for like $125 probably....5 or 6 years ago. I had an OME lift on 33's and lived in Oregon. I never had a problem starting my car when it was 20 degrees out, straight up I never paid much attention to it because I never had a problem with my battery haha. That was my first 4runner.
My second was a 2000 highlander edition which had some autozone battery in it when I bought it. I put in a yellow top when, again, I installed my stereo lol. I think I paid $140-145. I had another OME lift on this with 33's and went on numerous hunting trips in Arizona. Arizona can get as cold as Oregon and also verrry hot. Again, I've never had any problem with my 4runner relating to the battery when running Optima. I've seen a few friends' 4runner's batteries bust open and leak acid everywhere (in Oregon) with regular batteries. I just decided to spend the extra 40-50 bucks and not ever deal with any problem that may arise.
Or you can just go to costco and buy a duralast for 60 bucks.... which might not last very long. A good friend of mine had one in a '09 Tacoma and it died within the first 8,000 miles of that trucks life. My 0.02 cents is spend the extra 40-50 bucks and not worry about it whatsoever regardless if you are sunk in mud or at a gas pump. Optima's have treated me well. And I'm not sure what he means on that post about Optima's going downhill.... maybe he can elaborate....
 
There have been many reports of problems with the Optimas once they transferred production from Colorado to Mexico. When I bought my Red Top in 2006 (made in Colorado), you only heard praise for Optimas. Not anymore.

If my Red Top goes, I'd consider Odyssey (expensive) or DieHard Platinum. I have also heard some good things about the Toyota Dealer replacement line.

Too bad we can't get the factory Panasonics--that beast gave me more than seven great years.

Transferred out of country?!?! Bulls***!! Well Supra, there you have it.
 
The AAA guy wanted $115 for theirs and I called sears they quoted me $120 for a die hard gold.

Looks like I been going with a die hard one tomorrow.

I tried starting it again tonight and it didnt want to try at all.

Don't do it....well I don't know much about the gold but if you're about to drop top dollar on a battery you should get a Die Hard Platinum. It's a rebadged Odyssey. It doesn't get much better than that.
 
I did look into the Plantium series but it was clost to $190 without tax for one..

plus is twice the weight of the gold.. but then again, is gel based were as the gold is liquid based..

they both have its pros and cons..

So I have a bit of a side question from a response in here. I still have my stock battery but it is starting to go. Does the dealership not sell the panasonic anymore? 9yrs and still kicking is pretty good for a battery in my book.

As far as I know, the Panasonics were never sold in the US. The dealers have another line (TrueStart or something like that). At least, that is the case in NJ.
 
Any issues after replacing battery?

Are there any ECM or radio code issues after replacing battery?? Can I just change out?

Sounds like you got your replacement already, but for those that have a diehard and are considering another....

DieHard gave me a $30 discount since I swapped out my old DieHard with a new DieHard. I too, was tempted to go platinum, but stuck with the Gold and it only ran me $89. 3 year warranty, too!

When I took out the old one, it had a production date of 10/2003. Not sure if the previous owner put that one in the 4r in 10/03 or not, but it lasted until I had to replace it just a few days ago! not bad for a base model DieHard gold, imo
 
I want to preface this by saying I haven't looked into a battery purchase in over 5 years...
but most of my racing buddies all run Interstate. They also preach authorized dealers on these...
