Battery Size - Anyone running a Group 31?

Hi all, tried to search but got buried in "what is the best battery" debates. Just looking to see if anyone (specifically with the V8) has ran a Group 31 battery? I realize it will need a new tie-down and potentially a custom mount, but looking at the opening where the OEM battery fits, it looks like it might be close to hitting the upper radiator hose.

If you are running one please let me know! If you have pics, then you get 10+ gold stars.

that should fit fine, i was in the northstar group buy and i had to mod to fit it, its a little different from the other group 31 i had installed before, but i have a v6, it should be the same, u can fit it, itll hang over the tray but its not a problem.

i bought a northstar 31m on last years group buy. weather got too bad to install before i had the chance.

i have 05 v8, it will take modification. i wanted to put it up on the passenger side behind the airbox but i think the posts are too high. i ***believe*** the only place it will fit is the stock battery location. and i ***believe*** you need to lengthen the positive cable to reach as well.

i will be doing this one way or another in the spring....hoping someone else has a real solution opcorn:

I'll try and get pictures later, but I have one. It's a Duracell 31AGM (cheaper than others for same powa). What I had to do:

Had screw posts. Added adapter to mount to what I call "normal" auto battery post. With this post, I couldn't close the hood. Out came the angle grinder. Cut them to size. Awesome. Hood shuts.

I wanted military style posts. So: I knew I'd have to rewire a few things. And: Other than the ground, I didn't have to make any new cables. So, I made a new ground with 00 cable. (Eventually, I'll do this with all my main cables, but see below).

I did however have to "free" things up on the + end from the stock wire bundle a little and tie them back together to create a little slack. Just be prepared to bang your knuckles and keep unwrapping cracked electrical tape. Alternatively, you can run new cables, but the starter is INSIDE THE BLOCK! So: next time I have to do serious engine work, I'll do this. Until then, it all works just dandy.

I run a group 34. I have yet to fix the strap but I did extend the wires. I can't speak for a group 31 but my group 34 is 775 CCA so that might also be a good option.

alright so got it in earlier today but late post because i also installed some sliders and front bumper, so here we go, the battery fit with some minor adjustments. first here is battery tray and the area it sits, i knew i had to atleast cut one end since the battery was longer.

I tried running it this way and it fit but the Negative Lead was too short, I had some 4g and 8g laying around and contemplated extending it but then i thought i would just cut the tray a little more and take the wire loom off this clip right next to the battery

now i was able to move the battery farther back and was able to connect positive and negative terminals without a problem, next up was the battery tie down, since the battery was shifted back the mounting points wouldn't work, so i looked down there and bent a little tab straight and ran the hook on the back side instead of the front side.

and bingo, fits fine, factory tie down.

Thank you for posting this! I have the exact same battery waiting at my US mailbox so this is much appreciated. My only concern is with the photo above, is it touching the upper radiator hose? Certainly don't want too much heat transfer (or melting?? ) being that close to the hose.

I was actually thinking about tipping the battery on its side and mounting it so it didnt touch the rad hose. Being that its AGM there is no risk in doing that I believe.

Also got the same battery monitor... lol thanks for the ideas!

It's sitting right up on it but you can move the hose and or battery freely it's not really pushed up against it

my diehard is the same as the odyssey and i dont touch the hoses at all. all i had to do was cut the tray like he did and i open the little clip that holds the + side and pull some more up then close the clip. the - side i did have to extend the ground. i do need to do a wire again but my metal plate is what i extended it with for the time

I put a Northstar 31M in last month along with a Pelfreybuilt cage. I had to lengthen my two positive wires but that was easy. I had to use the inner/back posts and not the main posts as they were too far forward and hit the hood. So instead I used bolts which work just as fine. It does touch the coolant hose, but barely. I'm not scared about it melting as it doesn't get THAT hot. It's a BIG battery that's for sure. Sorry, I didn't snap any pics. I really should of my setup. Going to be selling my Bussman setup as I picked up a Switch Pros.

I've been running a diehard platinum 31 for a few years now. In fact it's the only battery I run, no duals for me.

It'll fit. I have the v8 too, doesn't rub the rad hose. Had to lengthen the negative lead. No modifications on the tray, j bolts or battery strap.

no other modifications? i picked up a NorthStar 31m and cannot find a way to get this sucker's posts not to hit my hood.

How did all of you get this to fit? my posts hit my hood and i feel like grinding them down wont even get it to fit. what am I missing?

i completely took out the negative post, the diehard plat 31m, i didnt need to modify, only the northstar i had to do this, its easy, all you do is remove the nut that is holding the negative post, and find the correct size screw thread to convert to stud.
