Battery terminal buildup

I have been taking my 4R in for servicing to the local Toyota stealer and it was expensive.

I decided to take it into Firestone for maintanence and they discovered that my battery terminal was all coroded. They needed to replace the whole wire. I asked them what is that from, and they said it is just normal.

I honestly thought my 4R was in excellent condition because we take it in for service about 2x a year. I never bothered to look under the hood. Low and behold the battery terminal was all buss.

Does anyone have the same problem. What causes this buildup?

Has anyone had problems with Toyota maintenance servicing? I just felt that I was paying them so much money just for them to only change my oil. they wouldn't visually check out the other parts of the car unless you told them.

i actually just lifted my hood and noticed my battery terminals were all corroded too!! im not sure the cause and i do get my truck serviced at toyota and im sure they probably only change the oil, lazy asses haha

I can't speak to Toyota service but the terminal build-up does happen. Periodic cleaning is needed. Products like either of these two applied right after a good cleaning dramatically reduces the build-up.

What cornfed lift are you running? 3/2? I am in the middle of figuring out if i just want to change out my tires or put on the 3/2 lift with some 285 Mickey Thompson's.

What are your feelings on this lift with bigger tires? Gas mileage? Ride/handling? disadvantages?

Let me know so I can make up my mind already.

Maybe I am old school but I would simply use a wire brush after putting on a paste of baking soda + water combo. Then to keep it from corroding again a smear of petroleum jelly does the trick.

Also you can use a can of soda/cola. Rinse well and you are good again. Diet or regular doesn't matter, but diet doesn't leave sugar residue in your driveway for ants to come find

I just use wire brush and then some wd40, seems to work just fine.

im not sure which one it is, it was the only one available at the time so yeah i think it is the 3/2, i totally recommend doing the tires and the lift, i love it and the handling is still great i can rip around corners as i always have haha

i actually just remived the confed suspension and instaled OME Springs, Shocks and Struts so if you want to but my cornfed lift setup ill sell it to you cheap??? your gas mileage will decrease a bit with the bigger tires but C'est La Vie!
i think i get like a average of 16mpg or something like that

If you are seeing corrosion at the battery terminal your battery is seeping acid at the post. Take a little baking soda on the corrosion add a little vinegar, when it's stops bubbling wash it off with water. Now put a little grease on the connection.

Every now and then I advise taking the time to look under your hood. Never expect your Dealers Service Dept. to really give little items any care. As this does not make them any money.:bash:

Yeah man, mine looks like a science project. Then again I am still on my original factory battery - 7+ years and 104,000 miles.

I clean it every couple months and am actually replacing the battery this weekend.

Four years is my limit and many times I get rid of the OEM battery's in three. I don't like finding a dead battery.

Why did you switch out of the cornfed?

With the EMU, did you have to remove your XREAS?

i was ready for a full suspension because i go offroad alot, and i needed something stiffer because i tow a 14 utility trailer for work and im installing the shrockworks bumper on my truck in a couple weeks when it finally arrives and that sucker weighs 130lbs so i needed stiffer suspension to support it,

the suspension was about$900 i think and i installed it myself, it usually runs about like $300 to install it

just make me a offer!!
