What battery do you guy like in terms of durability and life? I’m either thinking interstate, ac delco or one from Oreillys

My dad works at Firestone and swears by Interstate, so if I was looking for a name brand, I'd go with that.
Something that people always fail to realize, though, is that the best battery is really only as good as its replacement's availability.
You can have a $200-$300 battery with a long warranty, but if no one carries the battery locally, and that battery DOES die, you might have to buy another one just to get back on the road again.
I've heard some 'horror stories' about lack of high-end battery local replacements on this site.
For that exact reason, I went with a Walmart Value-Power 24F. I don't have any add-on electronics, and it's warm here in TX (I'd assume you have mild winters there in Cali, too) so I didn't need high CCA, or a deep cycle, or anything.
It was only $50, has 585 CCA, and a 1-year warranty. I have almost a year on it, including a relatively cold winter and a blazing hot summer and it's still going great.
I don't doubt I'll get at least 3 years out of it, based on reviews.
And if the battery DOES die within warranty, I'll stop by one of the 6 Walmarts within a 30 minute radius and just trade it out, even without a receipt.

I bought the Walmart Ever-Start MAXX-24F and am super happy with it. I almost bought the Home Depot Exide battery at first, until I realized that it didn't have removable caps to add water. That's a deal breaker for me.

O’Reilly battery’s suck. I have had nothing but issues out of them for the past few years. They always seem to go out RIGHT after the warranty expires.

I put a battery from Advance Auto in the ex’s car a few years ago, and no issues.
I plan on going with either an AGM Advance battery, or a NorthStar AGM in the truck, when I have time and money to mess with it.

I'm not a fan of AGM - have had too many odd electrical problems happen with them (once was especially bad - battery went bad, caused alternator to send voltage spikes that killed the ECU... fixed the ecu, replaced the battery and had no more issues - 100% the AGM battery).
I tend to go to walmart or Costco and prefer Costco... only because they keep the information on file and their prices aren't horrendous.
Most batteries are made by the same parent company anyways...

Another option is the X2Power battery from Batteries+Bulbs.
It's a re-branded Northstar battery with loads and loads of CCAs, plus a full 5 year replacement at any B+B store.

That is very true, but the grade of battery (like 3 year vs 5 year prorate warranty) from my experience makes a difference.
I believe the Walmart Everstart stuff is Johnson Controls.

Too many years as a mechanic, I have a preference for EastPenn/Deka batteries (they're rebranded to a LOT of different names). The only exception was for my 2001 diesel VW, the OEM battery was so far above Anything else it was kinda sad.
Of the hundreds of new batteries I've been through for myself and clients, I've had exactly 1 DOA... a lithium. While I don't mind normal flooded batteries, they're not great for most people as they simply don't maintain them. AGM and gel are both fine.
Nothing wrong with the "buy what's easiest to replace", nor is there anything wrong with the cheapest. I got 10 years out of a no-name cheapie in my last Toyota... same battery lived with me in GA, AZ, WY, CO and back to GA over that decade (and TN with the prior owner, no clue how long he had it in there). Just pick your personal poison...

The Costco Interstate used to be a 5 year warranty battery, and changed it to the 3 year prorate warranty. The older 5 year was a better battery.
The Walmart EverStart Maxx yellow is a 5 year Johnson Controls product which is generally held in high regards, as well as an OEM for other big brands. That said they also have a 3 year warranty version of the same battery for less money.

I have an interstate in my Runner that is labeled as a MTP which should be the 800cca battery. My midtronics tester says it’s only got 550cca which is in line with a regular megaton battery and my MPT battery passes the Amp Hour load test with flying colors.
The local napa sells the interstate as well as the napa brand batteries and they say that in the last 5-8 years they started seeing the interstates having a higher failure rate. Their house brand hardly has any returns. So my friends garage dumped interstate and sells napa batteries. I put one in my Saturn and will probably put one in the 4Runner when the interstate dies.

Ill also add getting a flooded battery that is vented rather than sealed will go a long way towards keeping the battery posts from corroding. Smearing a conductive grease on the terminals and posts will further prevent corrosion.

Funny...AGMs, which are sealed, never cause corrosion...not because they are AGM, but because they are sealed. Grease is not needed.

That is correct for an AGM. Thanks for mentioning the AGM. They also make sealed flooded batteries and they eventually leak gasses out of the posts. I added flooded to the above post so there is no confusion.

I have to disagree. I have switched from my usual Autozone (Johnson Controls) battery to O'Reilly (East Penn) due to overall declining performance and reliability from the Autozone batteries. Since the merger with Tyco, J.C. batteries have declined in overall quality. The J.C. battery division has supposedly changed hands again. Except for the two Interstate batteries I have, all of my other J.C. batteries are declining rapidly. The Interstates are J.C. but appear to be better made as they are maintaining Ah capacity better than the J.C. batteries.
