Hello my fellow 4Runner owners. I'm the proud owner of a 2006 black Sport Edition with a V8...bought her fresh off a Toyota lot in SoCal back in '06, and have babied her ever since. Hence the reason we're all on this website, we love to trick out our rides and make them uniquely "ours". I'm no exception to this and have loved every minute of my Volant CAI and Borla catback...until now.
I am up for smog for the first time ever, and just found out that my Volant cold air intake does not have the required CARB sticker which allows my vehicle to pass smog. It's really a stupid bullsh*t problem to be having as my car DOES pass smog (the technician had it hooked up and the numbers were "all good" but then his boss realized that I didn't have the sticker), it's just that it doesn't have the stamp of approval from the state of California.
Anyway, here's my dilemma...to purchase the factory OEM parts will run me about $650, possibly more with shipping and tax. And to just have to purchase those in order to pass smog every couple years seems dumb. So I'm appealing to my fellow 4Runner brothers...DOES ANYONE HAVE AN UNMODIFIED 4TH GEN WITH A V8 ENGINE IN THE BAY AREA THAT WOULD LET ME BORROW YOUR AIR BOX, FILTER, AND TUBE????? I'd kick a little cash your way for the inconvenience but I really would appreciate someone helping me out. I'm located in Walnut Creek and will obviously drive to wherever you are. I'd bring tools to do it (I know how), and will even swap out my Volant CAI on yours to minimize the downtime for your truck.
And just to say, because I know people will make suggestions, here's what I've already done....I've already tried to get someone to do it illegally (apparently it's a really big deal and we could both go to jail....who knew!?), but couldn't find someone. Plus they said it would probably cost 300-400. AND I've already gone to Volant and asked for the sticker, but apparently there is no sticker for my make and model because it wasn't "certified".
