Do we really need a lift kit to run Holister?? I'm a 96 stock height sr5 4wd manual trans with e-locker... I wanna go but don't want to risk damage.

Guys on Toyota120 told me that I'll be find running stock.
When I went to Frank Raines...I ran stock & I was fine.
Just do what I did...if you're not comfortable in doing something, just stand back & let the guys w/ the lift go at it.

Hey Kenny, don't waste your time with spacers, just put a real lift on already!!

I haven't installed the Spacers yet...however I know I KNOW they are a waste of time & effort to install, plus their performance isn't great.
But I don't have money for a real lift. I need a job like yourself, so I have money for toys.
So what setup are you planning to go w/?

Are the trails tame enough to keep my side steps on aswell without smacking them??

I took them off the day before I went wheeling, you'll bang them up on the trails..
I know (2) members for sure that bent theirs when they went wheeling.
I use my boards because my mom & my gf are short. I just put them back on after I go wheeling.
Easy on...easy off.

Gumball x2 on the boards, the first time I went to Hollister was box stock with 45K on the Grand Treks (bald as hell) she did great, but I got pinned on my running boards and got them all tweaked up; ended up throwing them out - although I shouldn't have been attempting the trail I was on with stock as it had a black diamond listing.
Hollister's map and trails are VERY clearly marked and at least 65% - 70% of the park is easily performed stock and maybe a little more with some good spotting and careful driving.
KC and Josh, I finally got an account at T120 - KC thanks for the push on the 3rd Annual Hollister Run for 10/25. It looks like there's going to be a crew going and I have now become one of them. This is going to be a great time for Gumball to come out and get support.

Guys, I'll consider the 10/11 trip cancelled (unless anyone else still wants to go, I can do Hollister twice in one month...

How long does it take to remove the side steps?? How many bolts? I'm game to go, and I'll put on new tires so I'm not caught out there with bald tires.

My '04 SE had three brackets with three bolts on each (per side). 10mm socket drive, I had them off in about 10 minutes. There might be something more to it with the 3rd Gen as I believe there is a little more integration with the wheel wells/mud flaps, but I can't imagine it is too difficult.
On my 4th Generation...
(6) bolts
(3) brackets
(2) bolts per bracket
Forgot socket size. (14mm? 17mm?)
3/8 ratchet
6" extension
~10mins each side.
I put jackstands under them, just to help me hold them.

I'm getting my wisdom teeth extracted tomorrow morning, so I'll be puffy & out of it, but if I'm okay and AND you are still going out this Sunday 10/11...I may be interested in cashing in your offer for co-pilot.

San Jose, Almaden to be exact. Are there water crossings that would require a breather?? I didn't know Hollister had anything that deep besids the mud pit.

Hollister is a fun time. I did it a couple of times stock in a 1989 4runner with, at that time, no lift, a 3.0 V6(ended up killing it in the infamous Hollister mud pit being the stupid person that I am). Most of the trails weren't a problem, just pick good lines. Oh, and by the way, my 89 4runner only had 28" tires all terrains. If you are going there with a stock rig, just bring some tow straps just in case and a couple buddies to be able to pull you if you do get stuck. Don't forget to disconnect the front sway bars on IFS rigs and air down to 10-15 psi.
