BBS issues with the "AT" Symbol?

FYI - The past two days, I've tried posting a reply that contained the "AT" symbol (can't type it or my post won't go through!). My replies failed every time. Removing the "AT" symbol allowed my posts to go right through.

I'm aware of the Forum Responsiveness issues, but this was clearly a different issue that flat prevented my post from going through. Just though you should know... :wave:

Strange indeed! Seems to be hit and miss. But removing the "@" allowed my aforementioned posts to go through (two different posts across two days - tried posting each one 5-8 times each until I removed the "@")... I'll see if I can find out an accompanying issue that might have triggered it...

Is it just me or is the forum running smoother than ever today? I generally have to re-load every 2nd or 3rd page here ever since I joined, and today I just opened 20 tabs and didn't have issues with ANY of them!

Just curious what was tweaked, and if the "AT" symbol or other "Special Symbols" had anything to do with it? I know the groupdiy.com site had issues with their forum when "Special Characters" were used (this was years ago)...

FYI - This happened again on Tuesday 09/30/14. I could not post a reply in the 5th Gen Alternator Upgrade Thread.

The exact syntax was:

"Lights won't be as bright at 13.5v"

When that "at" was initially typed as "@", I received the "Your post is too short..." BBS error. Changed it from "@" to "at" and the post went right through! I could still PREVIEW my post with the "@", but once I tried to actually post, the error would come up.


People thought I was crazy when I started this thread in Jan 2013 - and maybe they are correct. But this makes at least THREE different times that simply removing the "@" resolved my odd issues.

I'm obviously able to enter "@" like crazy - so it seems to only be an issue if surrounded by specific syntax (like the "Lights won't be as bright at 13.5v" - maybe "@" followed by a numeral does it?

No extra time to troubleshoot this odd BBS issue on my end - but hopefully this gives you some ammo. Rigtec also experienced odd issues as he alerted me once he saw my comments about the error in the Alternator thread, but has not yet confirmed if the "@" was involved with his BBS issues...

Yep - Just confirmed with that one phrase. Here is a pic when I attempted to reply to this post:

The surrounding syntax obviously plays a role because I can use "@" in other circumstances no problem. If I had to guess it's the "@" followed by a numeral (1 in my case).

Odd - So the "@" is at least part of the issue. None of my particular issues were related to "@ mentions". All of mine have had a space after the "@" and still caused issues.

Let's try this:

Lights won't be as bright @ thirteen and a half volts. (changed from "13.5" to "thirteen and a half" and it let me post!).

Well - That worked.


If I type:

Lights won't be as bright (and use the "@" here) 13.5 volts - then I get the error.

You can likely re-create this as well using the same phrase...

Okay so I'm not the only one having issues with mentioning people and using the at-sign.
