Beast Moving to New Home

An essential after market item here in Alaska (or anywhere) is a garage 2 car minimum garage preferably HEATED. I am happy to report that we found such a thing about a month ago. It is attached to a 3/2 home in Eagle River, about 10 miles from Anchorage. Now when winter hits, no more Beast looking like it just went through 57 years of hyperspace. No more grinding on start. No more wondering if the sound I heard was the door closing or the block cracking. I figure the first item I will put in there besides the Beast is ? What else? A freezer.

The garage has a separate heater able to heat to 90 degrees. We are happy. Moving in the 16th.:biggrin2: :beer:

Congrats on the new digs! I bet a garage is a huge deal up there. We have a 2 car garage but no door so I guess it's a carport? You can get away with that in FL. Just put ER in a Google map search and used the sat program - looks very cool. You are one lucky s.o.b. One day I'll get up there to check it out (Alaska that is not your new garage).

Ha-ha, I am the same way. Beer fridge, dartboard, poker table, wireless internet and direct tv.

When the "eastern european" guy came to install the dirct tv he asked where I wanted the third reciever and I told him the garage. He asked, "Leave it in the garage - you hook up later?" I said no, installed in the garage and he looked completely puzzled. As soon as I took him there he was very impressed. "Hey, this is nice - it's like a whole nother room".:biggrin2:

Gary, you're going to love having a garage for the Beast.
Not only does it make your winter easier up here, it will protect your rig from all the crap that comes down from the sky on your vehicle when parked outdoors (aphids' poop, those spruce sticky seeds, volcanic ash, and Palin polution).

i too just bought a new home and been in it for about a month now. its SO nice having a garage now. ive already washed my car 3x in the last 3 weeks. the garage faces west so its actually warmer in the garage then the rest of the house.

i just finished painting the garage this last week and next im doing some trim for the top and bottom of the walls and ill do a sink and some shelves eventually

I have a two car garage at home. In the summer it is home to two of my Antique VWs.
In the winter, the VW's get turned sideways so I can get my Daily Driver in as well.
Given the 4Runner's size, it has always been an "outside" vehicle since it cannot fit in the garage in the Winter configuration.

I am lucky that the heat & AC ducts go through the garage.
Back when I first move into the house, I installed a vent in one of the ducts with gives me heat & AC in the garage when needed.
That really comes in handy when it comes to working on a vehicle that needs maintenance or repairs.
Also nice to have a warm place to park my daily driver in the winter.

Recently finished a landscape project that lets me park my "portable garage" (aka enclosed car trailer) next to the garages.
That gives me a few more options when it comes to my 5 vehicles.
Best of all, the 4Runner is now shielded somewhat by the house when it comes to rain, snow, sun & wind.

nah i wash it outside. ive got a hose setup inside the garge and i use warm water for the bucket on the cold days. ill wash it no matter what the temp is year round now.

congrats man, sounds like your truck will be much happier. However, I cannot relate to you at all because here in San Diego it rarely gets below in 40 in the winter
