Bed liner on rocker panels/etc?

Hey guys I have a black 4runner that has silver/goldish rocker panels, valence, etc.

I have to say I really hate the 2-tone look, and am looking to make my 4runner entirely black.

Have any of you guys used spray on bedliner, line-x, or paint to paint your lower panels on your 4Runners? Pictures would be great, or even just advice, general how-to, etc.

I have not used it, however I was thinking of doing this myself. I drive a lot of gravel roads and the paint on my panels and flares is chipped to shit. So if you hear of a good spray to use let me know

there a quite a few of guys on here that have herculiner on their rigs on the lower half. Herculiner is the most popular since it is a DIY roll on application... Brain2sun i believe has it on his rig and if u wanna see the end result of a black on black look then check out millerpka. These guys can give u some insight on how to do it and all ur other questions..

I herculined my front bumper and sliders and it turned out pretty well. It's $25-30 for the smaller sized can of it but I don't think that would be enough for both of the rocker panels. Application is quick, easy as painting it on with a brush, just wear some latex gloves cause that stuff is a pain to get off our hands! The black color has faded a bit since I first did it about a year ago but I fixed that with a quick new top coat. It is really durable as well.

Did you do any prep work? or is it basically just clean and cover up the existing paint and touch it up when necessary?

Basically my parents are causing a fit (I'm 18), about me possibly "ruining a perfectly good paint job" so I'm trying to make sure that this turns out really well.

Same. my rockers are getting chipped to shit and i just can't stand the puke color to be honest. haha. If i do it i'll take a lot of pictures and do a short write up or something also.

All you have to do for prep is use a mild abrasive to scratch the clear coat. Take your time and do thin coats. The first time I did it, I had a bleed that I did not notice while applying because of the texture, and it irritated me for 2 years until I put another few layers on for touch up. Im happy with the results.

I would also recommend the full gallon can. You will have left over, but its nice to have around for touch ups and other purposes.

sorry forgot about this thread. I was painting onto straight steel so my prep was different. I'd do what Patsawasy said.
