Beeping is driving me nuts

I think it's the design of the key fob but almost every time i get in/out of my truck it beeps once/twice/even 4 times too many. Sometimes it'll give me a long steady beep which requires one more click/beep to stop( i know it's the 'alarm'), It gets pretty embarrassing at times. I swear my neighbors think i'm trying to get attention with the beeps.

Never had this problem in any other vehicle so I know it's not me...I can't be the only one with this issue. :bash: :dammit:

hmm...so if i hit the lock button accidentally while still inside the car and the door is open and the long beep happens, i guess that makes sense. i think the crux of the problem is the button on the key fob is too easily depressed.
 
Accidental button push

Yes, they are easy to push by accident. I have about 8 keys on my keychain, and even in a large coat pocket, the buttons get accidentally pushed sometimes. I have to be aware of the beep or I might walk away fromt he truck and unlock it accidentally.

A couple times the panic button got pushed while in my pocket with loose change. That's embarassing. I have to fish the keys out and unlock the truck and lock it again. Sheesh. I think it's my choice of how my keys are mounted on my keychain, but I know the order of them all and I don't want to switch.

If I could find a nice Toyota or 4Runner badged keyfob or chain I would get one. I like the Volkswagen W8 Passat keyfob. The remote IS the key handle, and the buttons are built in. Key pops out of the side like a switchblade. It's the car I would have bought if the stealership salesman and sales manager weren't so greedy.
 
I've never noticed any problems like that... but I have parked my 4Runner in my garage (unlocked, of course) and when I return to the garage in the morning, the doors are locked.

I guess the lock button must have been pressed while the remote was in my pocket. I didn't hear any beeps though....
 
I have seen the same thing

I will leave my doors unlocked at night, only to come out in the morning to find my doors locked. My keys stay in a cabinet, so I can only guess it was McDuff the crime dog came in through the chimney and locked my doors for me....

No really... I think there is an auto-lock feature built into the 4Runner that locks all doors if all doors were unlocked and the car was not started for more than a certain amount of time (30 minutes perhaps???)
 
My wife's 02 Camry and my 99 4Runner have the same "auto-locking" feature. Press the button to unlock it and walk away from the vehicle for more than about 5 minutes and it will re-lock.

The fob on the Camry is very sensitive and I've set off the panic in my pocket but the 4runner is just the opposite, I've got to hit the button mutliple times before the truck will react. Sometimes it's a little frustrating.

I wish there was someplace in between....
 
On my 350z if you held both the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for about 30 seconds it changed the 'door locked' sound which is a horn beep to flashing parking lights only.

It's a shame this isn't possible with the runner. I may just have to rip out that damn piezo.
 
I wonder if there is a Lexus or Scion FOB that can be programmed to work with the 4Runner. They probably has a different security system, but worth a try.

And that is....No rear window control.. There isn't another remote that willl function properly witht the 4runner's rear window feature. Some smarty pants may eventually make a nice aftermarket remote with more buttons that can learn the codes that the original remote sends out. But since the transmissions are supposed to be secure, it may never happen.

It can be done with coded garage door openers, why not remote keyless entry systems???

The Hilux Surf in Japan uses one that looks exactly like the Lexus key. If the US models have the same frequency, that would definately be a nice alternative.
 
beeping driving us nuts

ok on the 05's ours gets us when we are both getting out of the vehicle . If one of us is slower than the other and one of us hits the lock on the keychain ,with a door open ,it will continuous beep till you unlock it again or shut the door . Also ours will lock itself if left totaly unlocked after about 2 minutes . Its not listed in the features , but as we are paranoid ex new yorkers and forgetfull we didnt complain !!!
