Before and after, 225's to 265's

Hey guys, I just picked these up today. 4 basically brand new as you can see from the pics. Mastercraft Courser AT 2's from craigslist. When going to look at them i was under the assumption they were just first model, to my surprise they were the re done 2nd model which made this deal even better.

The seller does restorations of Jeep Wagoneers and these came off one a kid had lifted and crap. He only sells the Jeeps with stock size tires so these obviously wouldnt work. He brought them to a tire shop, they told him they would give him $75 for them lol. I found them on craigslist for $150. Met him at the tire shop, bought them , and then walked up to the tire guy and had him mount and balance them for $40 lol. I think i got a good deal, $190 out the door for 4 like new tires. There not the best tires, they are pretty loud on the highway but im hoping you guys with bigger tires will tune in and tell me they will "break in". For the money though...Good deal right?


Heres the before and after, stock suspension, no rubbing. From 225/75/15 to 265/75/15.

Hey Shawn, I know this is an old post. I just got an 01 4Runner with the 225s as well. I'm considering putting 265s on, but was curious as to what kind of effects you noticed going up to the 31s. Gas milage, acceleration,...? Any thoughts would be great, thanks.

Pros:

Smoother ride. Better grip i feel with the road. Less of a bounce off the road feeling.
Wonderful look wise. Much better than those 225s.

Cons.

Went from 260 to a tank down to 245 miles. Acceleration decreased a bit. i can feel the heavy tires more from the start off. i have gotten used to the pedal difference though. also a bit louder. a loud whirring sound on the highway that im also used to.

overall i would do it again for the looks alone. i recommend the swap.
 
I'm getting around 320 to a tank now, but I drive it pretty easy in town, which is a little over half my miles. I usually average between 20 and 22 mpg. But, from 265 down to 245 is not too terrible. I may just have to go for it then. I'm already getting extra miles out of a tank, right? Thanks!

I agree 100%. They are TINY. However, I'm currently in school in Raleigh and most of my miles are driving in town back and forth to class. I don't get to go wheeling much, other than hunting right now. I don't know why they ever put the 225s on the 4Runners...especially the 4x4s!
 
Oh, and are those numbers 260 and 245 just from the trip meter or gps? Because with the larger tires you're actually going a little further than what the car thinks.
 
Yea thats with the trip meter. I have not tried with a gps. I dont care enough to try to calculate the actual mpg. I know it sucks either way haha.
 
Well I'd say that's really good then. You may be interested in this... If that's right then you're getting better gas milage if that makes any sense, haha. The 265s are about 8% larger than the 225s. If your trip is saying your getting 245 miles you have to add 8% to that, so that means your actually going 265 miles on a tank now.
 
Looks good...you know my dad bought a 2011 Ford F-150 XLT 4X4 yesterday...and it came with 235 / 70 / 17's! The truck looks nice....but those tires..... :(

I swear, any truck shouldn't come with anything smaller than a 265. Your's looks great man!
