Bellcrank bolt snapped off

I swear it's one thing after another. I just finished my complete top end rebuild/timing belt, drive belts etc. In doing this I rebuilt the third member as well and put on new brake shoes. I needed to adjust the parking brake lever bolt (on the bellcrank) one was so stuck to the set bolt so I backed out the entire thing and messing with the nut on the vise the bolt sheared. So I go to the hardware store and got 1/4-28 (I know, toyota should be metric, but the bolt threaded in perfectly at the gauge), bought two of them thinking I'll just refresh the bolts on both sides. I could not for the life of me get it into the hole. It just won't thread in. So I check the other side, backed out the old one, threaded in a new one, grade 5, and it meets resistance, then SNAP. Now there's a fresh bolt sheared off into the bellcrank hole and i can't get it out.

1. is there any confirmation on bolt sizing that perhaps I got a wrong reading on?

2. I am itching to drive it to test out everything, this only affects the parking brake, right?

I suspect if i'm reading correctly that your issues is a result of trying to thread the 1/4-28 bolt into a metric thread. what I would do in this situation is get yourself an ez out and use that to remove the broken bolt and get the correct metric thread from the hardware store. the thread on the bolt you need is definitely not 1/4-28, it is metric

you can drive it without the bell cranks hooked up, especially if it's an auto and you don't need to use it as a parking brake. my bell cranks barely work, no issue driving, i'm going to disks in the back anyway so i'm not worried about them.

Might be easier to get a bell Crank parts kit from AutoZone or Oreillys and just replace the bell cranks. No messing with the easy out and breaking it off, no extra trips to the hardware store trying to find the right bolts. Probably about $30.

I ended up heading to the dealer for the bellcrank arm and a horseshow washer. Then I get home and realize he gave me the passenger side. Dammit! Tomorrow back I go.

for reference it is an M6-1.00 x 35mm bolt. Got the matching set at my local hardware store.

That happens more then you think. Best to go I with the part numbers..

On the phone I did give him the right part number **625 not **624 and brought in the old one. He grabbed me the **624 But we got distracted talking about bolt threading and he went to grab bolts to give me to replace the broken one. In that time I failed to compare the parts. No biggie, he straightened it up this morning and it's on there now.

I replaced my bell cranks not too long ago - not a hard job. I wouldn't even deal with the broken bolt. Just go to AutoZone and get the $45 Doorman Bell Crank Kit. Pretty cheap, no cussing at a broken bolt, and you get a refreshed e-brake system that won't seize up in the cold.
