having the same problem, hope someone answers soon.

Did you spin/wiggle all the pulleys when the belt was off to check for play or sticking?

I'm on my forth belt and do my own work. I change more often since they are an easy job. The belt when new should not squeel. It's possible antifreeze or oil has made contact with the pulleys.

How long ago did you replace the belt and tensioner? Did the squeal go away, then come back after a while? Did you just replace the tensioner pulley, or the entire tensioner assembly? Do you know if the TSB to correct the belt tensioner alignment problems which caused belt noise has been done?

As an earlier poster asked, did you check the other three belt idler pulleys for possible bearing failure?

Mine didn't start squealing until AFTER I replaced the belt...

edit: RIGHT after I replaced it, and it only does it when it's cold, after about 10 minutes it goes away.

i just replaced them less then a week ago. it was the whole assembly. i just found the TSB last night and from what i know the work has not been done. i just bought the 4runner 3 months ago. does anyone know if toyota will still preform the TSB work if the vehicle is no longer under warrenty?

Of course they will... At your cost though...

A TSB... or technical service bulletin is just that... A letter to the dealers to be on the lookout for "known" issues. In almost every case it does NOTHING to extend the car/trucks warranty. It just makes it easy to fix the cars when the come in since the dealer knows what are common issues and what to look for first.

Well sorry this doesn't help you much guyreg but I was fooling around with mine this morning and decided to try the old belt and the squealing stopped.

I guess it will continue to squeal when it rains like before but that's ok until I can try to exchange this new one for a better one when I'm in T-town again. I guess if it breaks before then at least I have a backup (although a squealing a backup)

I replaced mine..and right away it was squeaking...

Turned out to be the way I put it on...If it's NOT lined up exactly...it'll squeak.

mine started doing squealing about a month ago. just does it when i first start it after sitting at work all day. by the time im out of the parking lot its done.

The belt has little groves in it....And so do the pulley's. The belt is just a little bit smaller then the pulley. Make sure the belt is in the exact same position on each of the pulley's...It's NOT hard to do...
