Best 31" tires for first gen 4runner?

Hey guys,

I just bought my first 4runner, an '88 SR5 with V6 and 5 spd . . . and some 32" Wild Country Radial RVT 32x11.5 on the stock 15x7 wheels. These look really cool, but as you know, they don't drive great on the highway.

I'd love some feedback on what you think are the top tires to consider when going to a 31x10.5. I've been told that's the best balance between good looks and better performance and so on. I just need better control on the highway, and smoother ride . . .

So far I'm thinking about Wildcat All Terrain SXT and Open Country A/T. I also want a mud+snow rated tire.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

If you off-road often or more than a few times a year, then i would get:
1. BFG AT Ko
2. Goodyear Wrangler SA
3. Nitto TerraGrappler/Toyo Open Country AT
4. Michelin LTX AT2
5. Bridgestone Dueler REVO

If you don't off-road much and care more about on-road performance/ride, then i would get:
1. Michelin LTX AT2
2. Goodyear Wrangler SA
3. Bridgestone Dueler REVO
4. Pirelli Scorpion ATR
5. Firestone Destination AT
6. Nitto TG/Toyo Open Country AT
7. BFG AT KO

If you just want to stay on-road all year long, then i would get:
1. Michelin Cross Terrains
2. Bridgestone Dueler H/L
3. Yokohama Geolander HT-S
4. Goodyear Fortera series

Yeah, it's a ranking. So, for off-road, i feel that BFG AT KO is the best AT out there, but it's not necessarily the best on-road.

I looked them up on 1010tires.com and they are all out of my price range. I suppose the Les Schwab Wildcat or Wild Country type of tires will have to do. I had Wild Country tires on my truck and they seemed to do well, but never tried them in mud or snow since it was not a 4x4.
